Re DT990’s - If you can find a beyerdynamic a20 headphone amp - you could consider that…not sure of prices as I believe they are discontinued

My Atom he was traded together with a bank account rummage for the Ferrum.
Just that, a Rega Saturn and the Mezes. There is a Muso qb.

The main system has been switched off for sometime.

I currently have a nad c320 and denon book shelf speakers. They sound good to my ears and loud enough for my small room. My dad has a naim system with a dac-v1 and a nap100 paired to dynaudio speakers.

Hopefully my dad upgrades he’s system soon and i get he’s old stuff😉

Been meaning to post a picture of my new Meze 109 Pro’s here for a couple of weeks now.

Very pleased with them. Ex Demo from @BasicallySound in Norfolk, along with a Grado 4.5m extension cable (new) obtained in less than a week.
Tony’s service exemplary as usual.

ZMF Caldera Open . . . . nice!

How do you find they compare with the Utopia?

Bought these a couple of days ago.
I have been thinking of getting new headphones for about a year now, and finally.
I really like the sound.

I compared them to Hifiman Sundara, and they
are quite different.

I loved the Utopia and only let me curiosity get to me about planar headphones. I tried the DCA Expanse first. And while there were many things I really liked about that headphone, I ultimately missed the Utopia.

But on to your question about the Caldera Open. I call it a draw. I like them equally. Everything in my collection sounds great with both headphones but I don’t miss the Utopia at all. When I got to hear the original Utopia again at last years SoCal CanJam, I still loved their sound. As for the differences, the Utopia is a tad more dynamic and snappier. It’s a little more exciting. The Caldera Open is a little warmer and has more filled out bass going into the sub-bass. It is also a very dynamic and punchy headphone, just a hint less so than the Utopia. If I had to give a win, it would be a slight one for the Caldera due to its looks and lifetime driver warranty.

Good to see a V2 with the usual mods. Take it you’ve done caps inside too ?
One of the best vfm pieces of kit put there. Very tweakable and 25 years on, still in service.

Wiim mini Bluetooth output - LMS playing Misty Radio - JVC earclips. (perfectly adequate for my shot ears :yum::notes:)

Yep fully midified even drilled two holes in the top to keep an eye on the EC88s?
still usuing the same valves since purchased at least a decade ago and the MF outperforms the Jotunhiems!

I’ve never been brave enough for the additional ventilation. A modded V2 or even x-cans is hard to beat for the money. They cost more now than when new in my experience.

Toyed with the idea of buying the complete X series (Amp.CD,Phono amp) would look
cool even today think the amp put out 50 watts a side?

Had all those. X-a1 was ok. Id not repeat the rest. Just got x-psu and x-can v2 now. Given to me by a mate, along with a pair of HD-600.

Lovely cat :cat2:
