Egg boxes, scaffolding, antique buffet server, traditional woodworking bench. Loving the sheer variety and ingenuity. The surprises keep coming. . .
New setup for 2026.
I bought this small piece of furniture way back in 1979, when teck was in. 47 years later it’s back in service as a turntable support.
This is what my bedroom system looked like when I was still living with my parents (the curtains were chosen by my mom, not me!)
Nostalgia is not what it used to be…

Always lovely to see the A60 (& T21 I think) - great sounding amp.
I had a NAD 3020 (£89 vs £200) with my Rega, though I had a Rega 3, looks like yours is a ‘2’ ![]()
I eventually moved to Naim amps so never did get the A60, but the feeling stayed with me.
Sorry about the thread drift. ![]()
Hey Pete, I’d counter this with the mania that accompanied Mana stands, and yet now, instead of 14 layers of metal and glass very few are seen.
How come they were so right and are now so wrong?
No offence to anyone still running Mana rigs, just pointing out the fashion to “science”.
Before I had my USM furniture, I had a Fraim Lite.
I don’t notice any difference in sound quality.
So why stick with furniture that’s less attractive?
No drift there @back_in_the_game. In 1983 I was working 2 jobs as a university student - orderly in a long term care centre and Hi-Fi salesman. Guess which one was more fun?
I was allowed to buy hi-fi gear at cost + 10%. At some point the Planar 2 was replaced with a Planar 3 with one of the first RB 300 tonearms. The unit is still playing vinyl records in my son’s system, 40 years later!

There are two compromises with this arrangement, one being that I am not able to have the Nova on full show, which is a shame as I like the volume wheel feature, and the other is that the unit is not particularly deep, so I had to replace my old Technics turntable for a Michell Tecnodec, so an emotional cost vs a sonic gain.
However, being an AV unit, it has plenty of holes for cables.
I can’t decide until all the fruit has been eaten..
If you can guess what the orange fruit is you win a prize.
I’d have to resort to google, noting your location. At first glance I assumed they would an apricot or plum of some sort… clearly not. Whatever, they look good.
On the shelve I would have one item on the shelf, probably NDX2. The kinky looks good on top and probably benefits from more air around it ![]()
Loquat?
Very nice James. Did you ever experiment with removing the springy platform feet from your streamer?
Actually I did. But I wouldn’t categorize it as a conclusive experiment. I need to get all the boxes into order and then try it out. If you want to know the results of the 30 min test, some distortion was heard without the springy things.
Interesting. I would be flabbergasted if the springy things could improve the sound. But this is a funny old hobby and only one’s ears can decide.
Thanks for the idea which would certainly help to situation, though I would need to manage the 6 cables I have to the tv, which strangely this one does not seem to have. I am sure some trunking could help though.
The cables will be visible first, but you can easily hide them after.
Yes, will give it some thought. I could also bring the turntable out of the cabinet, so two wins! (for me at least)
