Please be careful, yesterday my wife got an email from a company telling us that our Cat’s chip registration had expired. Money required to renew register. From what we can see there are a few scams of this nature around, presumably because of the new compulsory law.
Worryingly, they had our email address, telephone number and cat’s name. From what we can see this was a scam.

Hetty gave us a fright this morning - she escaped from the house last night without us realising but I found her in the morning after 15 anxious minutes during which I let one of the farmyard cats in (also black but regular) until I realised my mistake by which time she didn’t want to leave and thought she’d moved in!

Anyway Hetty is fine:

My genuine farmyardicous rasta domesticus are quite at home indoors, i feel very sorry for your feline apartheid system that excludes the scamp regulars :pouting_cat:

When mine were young the neighbour’s pedigree fluff balls would visit here daily and all got along together marvellously without any concerns.

Well we had set a hard limit of three indoor cats some time ago and Beans and Toast were supernumerary and restricted to the farmyard by my wife. Then came Sprinkles who sort of replaced Pippa (who had died a while earlier) so back to three indoors then Sprinkles was run over and we got suckered into the two new kittens and so at four indoor cats. Not having six indoor cats - that’s too many!

I couldn’t do that, they would all be indoor cats.

My two were born in a remote barn on a farm so didn’t have any contact with humans until they were around 12 weeks old. It has been hard work gaining their trust but very worth it and they both love attention now and mornings start with them wanting strokes from me before I get out of bed to get them their breakfast. This time last year, they would often be hiding somewhere and only come out when they heard me get up and go into the kitchen, where Latika would brush against my leg but if I bent down to stroke him would either hiss or jump away. Sakli was the first to warm up to me but is still the most skittish one and moves away sometimes, usually to come back a few moments later for a stroke on his terms.

I feel the need for a cat, an elderly one, who appreciates warmth, quiet and a lap to curl up in.

Or a couple of manic kittens to keep you “young”?

(I know a couple…………LOL)

Go for it Ian. They are no end of lovely cats out there waiting for someone like you to come along, especially older cats. Every day you don’t do it is a waste. I know there are lots of questions about how it will all work going forwards, but you can take control with a puss to help you.

I’m sure there’s plenty of strays/homeless cats that would love to keep you company. Kittens probably find a home easier than older cats, they’d probably appreciate you much more as well.

Yeah, I was joking about the kittens in Ian’s case.

We have a number of kitty charities in the UK from the “national” Cats Protection, though to smaller local charities. Indeed, Daughte#2 was helped by London Inner City Kitties for her Artemis & Nyx, and Daughter#1 was assisted by a Plymouth local charity for Javert & Valjean - the subject of a pic just a few up from here…
