Personally, love the original fluted Afromosia plinth.
This is the recent story of our LP12, which was as original, from new in 1986 until 2020.
(1) LP12 inside - before image

Something a bit more “retro” to study.
This is the inside on my 1986 Linn LP12, which is stock, as originally supplied.
Features of note :
Valhalla power supply board
Corner bracing
Pressed steel chassis, with additional strut, glued (not welded)
Original external tonearm cable and cable dressing
Original motor
The picture is taken from the underside, whilst on the usual Linn LP12 service jig. (Picture taken while in for service and some upgrade work, with my dealer).

(2) LP12 inside - after image
This is an updated - show us what’s inside - of my 1986 Linn LP12, now that the upgrade project is nearing completion at my dealer.
So, an “afterwards” picture, to compare and contrast with first “before” post of the original inside, back in October 2020 at the start of the works [IMG_0092] .
(3) Ittok, during "bearing strip / service & rebuild "
Change of direction - something mechanical to study - after all the great electronics “insides”.
Here is my 34 year old Linn Ittok LVII, whilst with specialists - Audio Origami - for a bit of tonearm TLC and a “bearing strip / service repair”…

(4) Troika Goldring rebuild

More flutes.
1986 Linn Sondek LP12, Afromosia plinth, braced internally. Also, with Valhalla PSU and mid 80’s style chassis and bearing, (pre Cirkus), etc.
All remarkably simple and works just fine.
Until very recently, completely original with little or no work all these years. Many years of sterling service.
It came from Sound Advice in Loughborough. (Remember Derek anyone)? Which is the same place my much loved Epos ES14’s came from. IIRC a few years later, late 80’s. But that’s…

A year long journey has just come to an end.
My LP12 is back at home.

Fluted Afromosia plinth, fitted with Ittok LVII tonearm.
Originally, it came from Sound Advice, Loughborough, in 1986. (Same as my much loved Epos ES14’s). Until recently, it was kept in original condition - without any upgrades or modifications - and sounded just fine to my ears.
At nearly 35 years young, thought it might benefit from some TLC and so off it went into an LP12 specialist, in October 2020.
