Show us your Sondek

Yes - and no. It was my Fathers - and I was quite young at the time…!!

It’s was only $210 which I thought was reasonable considering the cost of a new turn table.

My Aunt Gladys and Uncle Bill had one of those. My brother and I always used to play their 78s on it when we visited. Maybe it planted the seed for my eventual LP12!

90 posts since anyone has shown a Sondek, perhaps we have seen them all!

I’d guess that there are about 80,000 to go…

Oooh, nice 'spec Skeptikal - bet it sounds even better than it looks and it looks very svelte indeed, nice grain on the plinth if I may say so - I’m guessing you must have hit the end of the (current) upgrade path with that little lot!

@Jonners
Thank you for your very kind comments.
Yes indeed it’s as far as it can go without changing the cart but realistically I think I’m keeping it real.
I wonder what the 50th birthday might bring. :hugs: :sweat_smile:

Well, that’s a £3800 cartridge, already PDG by anyone’s standards so none too shabby. I guess it may mean spending even bigger Bucks to gain a discernable improvement and the sort of levels we’re talking here (maybe £6-£7k) might yield greater results elsewhere. Phono stage maybe a place to start looking? I treated myself when I turned 50…:wink:

I was just thinking that, with his source, @Skeptikal can’t really go too much further easily.

I’d suggest adding a Hicap to his SN3 would be worthwhile, but the next meaningful change would mean 282 (or 252 or just 52) plus Hicap plus 250. It’s easy spending other people’s money…

Here’s my 1987 bad boy. Now with Karousel, Kore, K17D3, Prefix S, Lingo 4. It’s about as mid-range as you can get and I can’t believe that a few years ago I actually considered changing the plinth.

Nice to see a Karat 17D3 there…see my previous posts banging on…you’ll really enjoy the new DX version when its time to replace.
I also used mine with a Prefix S but now using Superline HCDR

What are you using on the top corners of plinth, mine got marked years ago where the little rubber gromets were missing from the lid

My standard Akurate LP12 (with Lingo 3 and Karousel upgrade). Am considering a change of plinth - went with black initially as the “safe” choice, but considering walnut (or similar).

DX is on the cards next year, I feel obliged to have a listen to a Krystal because when I got the D3 there was a lot of doom mongering about the Krystal cantilevers breaking so I dismissed it and the D3 has never disappointed. Might think about changing the Prefix to an Entity at the same time but will most likely do that later if at all.

Likewise I felt I ought to dem a Krystal when my D3 was getting due for replacement, much preferred the DX (much improved since the D3 and I preferred it to the Krystal). See my recent posts back up thread.
I see the DX has now gone up in price (£1399) since, as have all the DV range, you will still be able to get a good exchange price though

@Dreadatthecontrols
Hi yes they are very thin lightly self adhesive felt discs.
To prevent the usually impossible to avoid pip marks.
Hope this helps.

Lovely plinth. Thank heavens you resisted!

Thanks, yes Ive wondered before about putting something on my plinth, but its already a bit marked which I tried to disguise with permanent black marker.

Doesnt the adhesive creep and get a bit sticky?
