I for one would like to see the Solstice continue. I got to like it’s look after an initial ‘errrrr…’.

…but lots of space for an on light, if they could find one that didn’t adversely affect all the components that you see stuffed in there!

Still, it’s a nice big transformer - so that’s probably what (most of) my money went on all those years ago.

Actually, I believe that some of the cost covered the dealer’s time in ‘matching’ the particular LP12 to the particular Armageddon. I’m happy to accept that this is true, but I have no idea of what’s involved in the matching.

I think the 'geddon is proof that Naim had a sense of humour.
:slightly_smiling_face:

Oh dear, James, do you mean by 'It" that the Armageddon was discontinued in 2015?

If so, a lot of the fun stuff seems to be disappearing from Naim’s product list. I think that the powers that be in Focal are determined to drive us all to use those wretched streamer thingies. I won’t do that, as I know how bad music sounds coming off my (rather expensive) Mac.

(I’ll probably get my bum kicked now for expressing Luddite views.)

Yes, the Armageddon. Streaming can be very good Graham. When you’re ‘released’ get your dealer to give you a demo - it’s a lot different to playing back music off a Mac.

41 years in……and here it is today. Only original parts are the lid hinges and the outer platter🤣

I really would not describe what comes out of my Mac as ‘music’ - it has been a godsend (as has my iPhone) in my forced incarceration, but I’d never listen to music on either of them at home, where I can listen to music as it should be heard.

And streaming is a step too far in my case.

I actually like standing in front of the glass shelves holding the LPs and CDs and choosing what to listen to next. There’s no fun to be had in keying this into a computer and listening to the strangulated sounds that emerge.

Anyway, now that I’ve defined myself as a dyed-in-the-wool old fogey, I shall retreat and watch the remainder of ‘Skyfall’ on ITV+1.

I’m sorry if I’m sounding tetchy, but I’ve been away from my home for nearly a year now, and I’m utterly fed up with the whole wretched sh*theap that these so-called health professionals have constructed for me! I’d be a lot happier if I had any cause to believe that anything will change for the better any time soon. I despise each and every one of them!

Right, back to JB.

The Ekstatik sure is pretty, compared to the surgical
kit look of the Kandid.

It tracks heavier than the Kandid? Looks like 2g from what I can see.

That’s a miracle :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

That’s a very handsome LP12 n’ bits, on which I may have commented before, so I won’t comment further, except to say that the plinth looks nicer than Linn are able to provide these days. It’s a lovely finish to the wood.

I am in the same position with changes (or do I mean ‘upgrades’?), and have only the hinges and outer platter from the Linn that I bought (from Howard Popeck of Subjective Audio in Camden) some 40 years ago.

(I do so wish that I had kept the lovely black Japanese-built Ittok that I had before switching to the ARO that I still use today. I was having trouble with the damping of the lift/lower device, so sold it to some lucky chap for a couple of hundred squid. I’d like to think that he got the wretched device fixed, and that the Ittok is still giving of its best all these years later. If I had kept it, I could have asked Grahams Hifi in Islington to put it back into service in the LP12 that I am having them put together for my son. At least they will reuse the black plinth that I started out with.)

I’m not claiming any sort of record for the hinges, but I do wonder what other users do to or with theirs that they need to buy replacements.

Yes, it’s 2g.

Very nice!

Surprised that cantilever hasn’t been snapped off by the grandchildren yet though

The hinges on my deck are 43 years old and I still have the smoked acrylic lid! The plinth is original, I guess the outer platter and I guess the power lead and if that isn’t then the MK plug on the end is.

I think that you’re very brave to soldier on with the original smoked lid for the LP12. It doesn’t look very nice, it scratches if you so much as look at it, and - most important - you can’t see the good things inside.

I can match that. Plus a still mint looking & totally unscratched smoked lid.

Way superior looking to the clear one…

Some of us don’t feel the need to brag that mine is bigger than yours!!!

Said very much tongue in cheek Graham.

Are we talking about the length of the shaft

(of our tonearms)?

Well you started it!

Another great looking plinth! I also like the black deck if that’s not just a trick of the light.
