The Skorpion is one piece and sits in three cups (feet). The second piece I guess you’re thinking about is the Eklipse. I don’t have that. You shouldn’t need that with Fraim. A demo is the only way to answer all your questions. I’m lousy at describing the differences, it just sounds better - it’s not hard to hear either!
Dan - @Richard.Dane has kindly provided your e-mail. Will drop a line very soon - busy today, something to do with Christmas, that unexpected event every year
A Stealth LP12 as my dealer describes it, probably because the black triangular form of the Eklipse subplatform recalls the B-2 Stealth Bomber. Or maybe because, as the number of Tangerine Audio bits has increased over time, Tangerine is taking over the Klimax LP12 by stealth
It’s basically a Klimax LP12 with all the Tangerine Audio bits (Stiletto plinth and top plate, Skorpion base, Eklipse subplatform, and Revolver outer platter). The mat is a Collaro mat, which I’m using logo-side-down to preserve the almost all-black look.
I also have an Evenstar, which remains sealed in its manufacturer’s packaging as I literally can’t stand the sight of it. The marginal improvement I heard when it was demonstrated to me is not worth the visual distraction it creates. From my listening position the turntable is within my line of sight and, because the Evenstar has a triangular cross section, I can see it rotating as the record is playing. Now if only it had been circular with a plain rim…
@PaulDavies
Maybe check out the Stack Audio Serene. Same as you, I didn’t like like the Evenstar visually, but Serene looks a whole lot nicer (and lighter, if that has any bearing!)
Wonderful. Looks are entirely subjective (though I like them a lot), but we have turntables for sound. If there is any turntable that sounds clearly better than what you have, at any price, I don’t know what it is.
Just keep an eye on your deck. I learnt the hard way that covering items with cloth is not a good idea long term. There’s no airflow/exchange and problems can happen before you know it.
