You would simply need to tune the suspension with the record weight on, assuming it is heavy enough to affect pistonic motion or platter height, which is unlikely but not impossible. Nevertheless the StackAudio Record Stabiliser is not a record weight, it weighs 95g, less than many records, it is a device meant to absorb vibrational energy.

I think I might have one of these somewhere very lightweight and snug on the spindle.

Although I’m only a very new LP12 owner, whilst reading and viewing the upgrades that people have carried out to their LP12 is interesting I have wondered at what point does a LP12 cease to be a LP12?

When I see the spec’s of some of the LP12’s on here it seems that there is nothing original left other than maybe the lid.

Before anyone drags me out and puts me in the stocks, its not a criticism just an observation as what the owner does with their TT is their business alone.

Perhaps a slightly facetious reply: I would say that my “Stealth LP12” (a Linn Klimax LP12 with all the Tangerine Audio bits) is still an LP12 because the Tangerine Audio bits don’t change any of the basic design elements of the Linn LP12. It’s just not a Linn LP12 any more.

I looked at Stack audio stuff years ago and thought it looked interesting. I was looking at upgrade paths for LP12. The thing I started to realise was that some like to mod everything. Cars, hifi, anything. It just takes it further from original design.

Some mods may make things better. But it will devalue your LP12.

LP12 is now over 50 years old since being born. The only mods that seem to be around are Tangerine Audio offerings.

And from what I have heard they are meant to be worthwile!

I am sure it sounds better than mine. And it should do at the additional costs of all the extra upgrades over the Klimax LP12

The main thing is that you are happy with it and you clearly are.

I would certainly consider it.

But the mushrooms and Stack Audio stuff isn’t really going to go the distance.

Tangerine Audio has been going for ages now and a fair few on here have gone down that route.

The Taica Gel Bushings B-1 (I just don’t like to call them mushrooms) are in my experience the single most transformative enhancement you can make to an LP12, whether you end up preferring it or otherwise. It is also the cheapest and easier to install and revert, as there is nothing to disassemble, only the baseboard needs to be removed and replaced. Nothing to lose if you do, and according to my experience and many others, a big loss if you don’t.

Apart from the difficulty getting a dealer to do it if you don’t like working on it yourself, that looks a strong case.

I am interested that you know that “many others” have done this. Do you have any idea how many, either on here or more widely?

There is good info on other HiFi discussion spaces on the Internet, unfortunately I cannot reference or even mention without breaking this forum’s rules.

Thanks. Yes, I’m delighted with it.

The Tangerine Audio Stiletto integrated plinth and top plate strikes me as an extension of the principle behind the Keel to the plinth and top plate. They’re both machined from a solid block of aluminium to minimize vibration by removing all screws, fixings, and joins. IIRC, Linn developed a prototype aluminium plinth (which Ivor T took ownership of) but concluded it was too expensive to put into production.

The Revolver outer platter really took me by surprise. I was not expecting such a large improvement given how precisely engineered the original from Linn is.

In researching this reply, I tried to visit the Tangerine audio website. But it seems that the website’s domain has expired and is up for sale

Edit: because TA is changing its top-level domain from .com to .co.uk and not for any of the other reasons I speculated on earlier.

The Stiletto and the like won’t wear out or need a service, so I am not panicking, but I am surprised by the website issue. Perhaps a dealer who knows them can comment?

This was the First thing my dealer told me when he installed my LP12

Fair enough. I think I know how little I know, if you see what I mean.

I have asked the question here and on another 2 well-known places. Let’s see what answers I get.

Although the only components which remain from the LP12 I purchased in 1995 are the hinges and lid, many (most) of the upgrades which have been installed are designed and supplied by Linn. Hence, I still think it’s a Linn LP12, but not an all Linn model.

Cannot stand mushrooms, horrible squidgy things, nasty, just plain yuk.

But I guess that’s not what you’re talking about?

I told my dealer about the Tangerine Audio website and he sent them a message about it. If I find out anything more, I’ll report back.

Linn did the one piece machined plinth top plate thing many years ago and posted their conclusions on the old Linn forum.

That’s very interesting.

I’ve just spoke to Mark @ Tangerine Audio.
The website URL is changing and should be up and running very soon.
No issues just an IT upgrade. :+1:t2:
Obviously I can’t post it on here.

Thanks for clarifying and yes it’s just a simple change from .com to.co.uk pretty much, so nothing to get excited about here. it is always best to check back directly which is exactly what you did :call_me_hand: But again does highlight the potential pitfalls of jumping to conclusions on social media which could inadvertently cause damage to companies or participants here and elsewhere.
