So… thats a ‘new’ Fluted Plinth…??
Yes. The identifier is no black bottom, which to me makes it look not quite as small as my old fluted Afro.
Blimey, I have a black bottom. Only had it 33 years, not sure I’ve consciously noticed that before. Only play it nearly every day.
Just thinking about your comment …
Not thought about that before. But you’re absolutely right.
The painted bit - lower section - makes the older version look somehow smaller.
(Perhaps an optical illusion, reducing the scale of the item).
The detail I liked about the newer version - when I saw one up close, just recently - was how well made it looked. How crisp and sharp all the wood work looked. It was just lovely up close. I suspect more modern machine tools probably do a much better job. The finish is just brilliant.
I’d have to get my old Afro out of the loft to directly compare size, but I think you’re right about the illusion not having the black border…
(I was toying with the idea of adding black tape just to see the effect!)
The plinth is very nicely made, agreed!
Nice. Is that from Linn? I bought a Simplinth a few months before Linn announced they were bringing the flutes back.
Same here nicaim
Dark oak fluted via Peter Swain - Simon Price Simplinth
It’s beautifully made and looks fantastic
If I’d known Linn was going to bring out again , would I have delayed the purchase ? No not ar all as Simon Price is a perfectionist I have another plinth of his and it’s beautiful
Bought them both from Peter on images alone as I’m in Sydney
Cheers
The Simplinths are fantastic plus there are more wood options. Glad Linn brought them back as well.
Also great album.
@nicnaim
Yes, it is a Linn plinth. Has a nice pattern to it, but that doesn’t really come out on camera (the lighter ‘flash’ on the left contrasts with darker patches) - it looks quite stormy if that makes sense.
How good are the Linn plinths from wherever they come from
Can’t stop raving on about them
Kore Blimey!
Kore Don Bleu…???
That’s tasty Kookin.
Here is my new arrival, barely 24 hours in the house and I couldn’t be happier. I was looking for a new turntable to replace my Rega RP8/apheta 2 into Rega Aria with a superior TT and an MM cartridge to play into my SN3 (currently on order). Went to Cymbiosis to listen to the Vertere DG1 versus a Majik. Nothing wrong with the DG1 but it was the Linn that made me smile and my foot tap. Changed cartridge from Adikt to AT VM530 which was more than Adikt’s equal and cheaper . A NIMA unipivot arm upped the musical engagement. Finally, I couldn’t resist adding this exquisite walnut Simon Price plinth. All put together of course by the incomparable Peter Swain.
There’s been a lot of love on here recently for flutes, but that is one gorgeous plinth, despite it being fluteless.
That Nima arm looks a lot like a Baby Aro…
Thanks! There’s a time and a place for fluting but not on such a lovely piece of wood as that
