For me, they were close to where I worked in the late-ish 1980s. Jude let me hear the Rega Planar 3, Creek 3020 and Heybrook HB1s. He even found some old stands. I bought the lot. Ditto the first time he played me an old 62/140 combo, and a Hicap. And the second time he played me an LP12.
If they had been ‘just down the road’, I’d probably still be renting…
Me too. I do like a trip to Canonbury Yard now and then - bus ride, and taxi back ( if I’m carrying something heavy). I only renewed my acquaintence as a customer with Grahams a few years ago as the system had been boxed up for quite awhile (the wilderness years). I still miss the Pentonville Road site a little - like the Sound Org in Borough Market there was something special about the place.
Probably just nostalgia, but…I quite like nostalgia!
I also used Sound organisation in London, I now am very happy to have them here in York. The service great with David looking after my lp12 upgrades and help with masterful setting up. Hamish still the main man for guidance. Setup as follows recent upgrades in Akrate ish speck but kept Ittok and Adikt.
Thanks @Djcman, I loved spending time with H&R at Southwark. Good Times.
Sadly, when we were in York a few years ago and popped into the new premises ( new to me - I knew the old site further down Gillygate) Hamish wasn’t there but had a nice tour of the shop with his son.
I remember the SO in London Bridge @steviebee and @Djcman. I couldn’t afford an LP12 back then (I was only a student) – but at the very end of 1984 I auditioned, and for £99, bought a pair of Heybrook HB1s (on ex-dem Linn Sara stands) to go on the end of a NAD 3020, Heybrook TT2 record player and JVC cassette deck.
Great place!
PS – the Heybrook turntable, NAD amp and JVC tape deck are all long gone, but still have those speakers and stands. I was using them up until the end of 2018!
