Show us Your Tablette 10

I look forward to seeing your ‘little oaks’ in situ HH.

Hopefully they will be here late this week or sometime next. ProAc are waiting for crossover components to be delivered. Then they will need running in of course. New speaker cables arrive today so it’s falling into place nicely.

I find TQB works well with them HH. They will open up over a month or so but I’d say give it three to have them fully settled. Your other components will be running in too of course.

Enjoy the ‘journey’ and any questions, just ask.

Not to stray too far off topic but I can completely empathise with moving to small stand mounters. I’ve always had a bit of discomfort with the upper mids on my Spendor A7’s being a bit hot and as I’m listening to music a lot more these days I’ve found it has exacerbated my mild tinnitus to being not so mild. I recently rescued a little pair of Rogers LS1’s from been thrown out and they’ve been a revelation, beautiful mids (better than A7’s) and nice smooth well integrated highs, the bass is obviously lacking as they only go to 75hz but actually the overall listening experience is very well balanced, they also seem to be more focused and create a wider soundstage. I’ve a pretty big room with pitched ceilings so it’s a big space acoustically and they fill the room perfectly which is surprising for their size. I’m now seriously considering chopping in the Spendors for a good but not too expensive and more easy listening / non fatiguing stand mounter, unfortunately there are no Proac dealers in Ireland though.

The all white stands and speakers look fabulous in your setting!

I have been on a very similar journey , had five box Naim amplification and PMC FB1.

The speakers were too large and the rat’s nest at the back too complicated , the system is in a cramped dark corner .

First to go were the speakers and yes I read this forum and rang a dealer ten miles away enquiring about the Tablette 10 , to be greeted with ‘’ I’ve stopped selling them ‘’ ‘‘Switched to Amphion instead’’

This is where sales can be made or lost, the dealer should have asked "why do want ProAc Tablet 10 but didn’t.

The answer being - that I wanted small stand mount speakers with a pro lineage that tried to reflect what the artist recorded and not about sounding good.

Anyway I ended up with Harbeth P3ESR , but these need oodles of current to sound at their best.

When the dealer should have said “Why do you want the ProAc speakers?” If he had said Amphion had a similar professional pedigree these would have almost certainly have been bought. HiFi dealers really should listen to their customers more ad not their own voices

Later the I ended up replacing the Naim with Rega and Graham Slee - and I have been very happy with the support of several dealers

Like you I have found that slashing the box count, reducing the speaker size hasn’t affected my overall enjoyment - indeed I think the system now sounds better . I just wish it had been with the easier to drive ProAcs … I would probably now have a Naim XS3 or Supernait

Interesting thoughts, Nigel. I won’t comment further here, given the thread topic, beyond saying that the Tablettes seem to be one of the few speakers available that can be placed against the wall, which is what I need in my current situation and would want in the future. I got SBLs and then SL2s exactly for that reason when I moved house because the Harbeths I brought with me required space that was simply not available.

Nigel, you say the NDX2/555 is ‘better’ than 272/555. I get what you say further on about the improved streaming functionality, but does your comment include ‘better’ SQ, and if so how would you describe that?

Hi Graeme. One question if I may. How far apart are your speakers and how far away do you sit to listen? And perhaps more importantly, how much toe-in do you have to get a stable central image but still give an expansive room filling sound. With only one functioning ear it’s tricky to get it right. For now I’ve just put them where the SL2s were, so it’s more the toe-in really. Thanks.

I’m actually ‘at’ work at last so will measure and report back at tea-time - as we call it up here!

14.5cm from rear solid wall & 2.5m apart and 2.75m to listening ears!

This is the information I got from GraemeH in September 2019 re positioning. Of course it may have changed with his signature version.

Well remembered. @anon4489532 As I was checking the distance from the back wall at the weekend I can add:

5.5 inches at nearest point and 6 inches at farthest point. So the very slightest toe-in.

Thanks

Graeme

Heres mine again. Solid steel SS6 stands filled 3/4 with Attabites. Love them. Postioning has changed a bit since this as they have settled in more. Have more toe in following ProAcs recommendations and about 35cm to the wall.

ProAc recommend to toe in so you don’t see the sides of the speakers and I have followed this recently and I am pleased with the results. Mine are just over 2m apart and about 35cm from the wall. My listening position is about 3.8m away and they fill my room at low levels.

Just to show you what the Tablette 10s prevent you from having to struggle with, these are the huge boxes that arrived here from HH’s home today.

I find the whole issue regarding the Tablette 10 in both forms quite interesting. I have a pair in oak that I have recently put into a second system I use. they were replaced in my main system with PMC 20.21 that I purchased used about two months ago. The reason for this was that I found the Tab 10 to be really not suited to rock music because they lacked “slam” for want of a better word. The PMC give me this.
I have no intention of getting rid of the Tab 10s, I like them but don’t want to listen to them currently when playing music. I note from the profiles of people posting here that they use substantially more amplification than I do, I have an XS2. I am also intrigued by what speakers people have gone to Tab 10s from. In my case I went from the PMC 20.21 and realised over two and a half years what I was missing.
In terms of positioning for the Proacs I eventually had them about one and a half meters apart and toed in at 6 and 5 and a half inches.
So I will be interested in what Mr HH does eventually think of his new purchase.
