Well done Mike! You will enjoy and discover again all the lp treasures.
You can dig still much better for not a lot of money, with a better phono stage….just saying.

It’s the 1S.

I’d been meaning to try the London Decca Maroon on the Schröder, which I’ve not yet moved back to the Artemis, for some time. The result is quite compelling musically, even with the cartridge wired for mono. It’s behaved impeccably so far, makes me want to try a London Reference just when they’re no longer available. Hopefully the new owner will come up with something along the same lines before too long.
I’m using a stageline N powered from the 552, the supercapped superline is idle but I can’t get to the back of the supercap to try it on the stageline. With the superline I always preferred AUX power over everything short of the supercap via Burndy, even supercap via Snaic.
Using an insulating arm base resulted in a bit of motorboating when static built up so I’ve wrapped a couple of turns of solder wire round the arm base and an adjacent chassis screw, that seems to have done the trick and as a bonus reduced the already insignificant hum.

I’ve a Korf SF9R on the way. That will start off on the Artemis with an MC but reporting on that my depend on whether I’ve reached my posting limit without a reply on this thread as I’m still on the naughty step for crimes against Naim Marketing.

I’m confused - not for the first time. Why not use the Superline? Surely, it would be better than Stageline N, however you power either?

Any wet clean regime will get rid of all static and therefore dust Mike. I use a Project RCM but there is plenty of choice. Lots of threads if you do a search.

I was trying to post a picture of all the various things I’ve used to remove dust, but for some reason it wouldn’t upload. The most effective dust removal has been the Okki Nokki RCM. However, it doesn’t eliminate static. Even after a clean on the ON, the record still usually lifts the mat as I lift the album to play the other side. Then, peeling off the mat leaves fresh dust (flecks from the mat?) on the disc - Grrrr!

Because a London Decca puts out 20 times the level that the superline is comfortable with.

Ohh… what did you have in mind sweetie? If I had the money I’d just jump to a RP10, but then there is also the issue that new vinyl very expensive, and most of what I listen too isn’t available here and would have to be ordered from the UK or Europe and posted out. So streaming (local and internet) has a huge advantage in that respect.

I thought it would be my mistake in some way but the 20X bit hadn’t occurred to me. Thanks.

Rather worryingly, the vinyl seems better on this one :flushed:

Well done Mike! Rediscovering your Vinyl collection is a lot of fun!
For dust/static control I’d recommend getting a Humminguru cleaning machine if possible in Australia (?). It’s the only reasonably priced machine that’s simple and sufficiently faff free to use IME. Check previous threads on it for details. My tip is to put just a few drops of dishwasher rinse aid in the distilled water and the static should be banished. Pop the cleaned record in a new, poly lined inner (important as the old one might recoat the cleaned record in dust/static). Your old collection will come up spanking new.
After that, an occasional, very gently applied stylus brush for your cartridge and a quick sweep with carbon fibre brush (the wider one one with the velvet pad between 2 rows of carbon fibres) for the discs before playing.
This regime works for me.

I am very surprised at this Clive. Static has not once returned to any record that I have cleaned with the RCM. Very different experience.

Re the mat, I do keep the lid on my LP12 when not playing and occasionally give it a good beating in the garden!

It is strange, but I don’t think it’s always been this way. I’m sure the Okki Nokki used to leave an album static free, but not these days. I always use anti static inner sleeves, keep the lid closed when playing and not playing etc. I’ve even taken to earthing myself on the radiator before opening the LP12, but I’d say the mat lifts off with the record more often than not.

As you wrote above, you found that sometimes the reborn RP3 sound better, for some albums, vs the Ndx2/555dr.
With a better phono, you will really be surprised. Rega Aria, Wand phono stage, Pure Audio phono. ( the last two are made in New Zealand, around 1k).

Don’t worry, be happy!

The same is true of this album in my system. The LP on my P10/Aura sounds quite a bit better than the Qobuz HR stream on my ND555. The same is true of 2112, Moving Pictures and most other Rush albums I have, the notable exception being Hemispheres.

In fact, most of my records sound preferable to their streamed equivalents; which is why I still buy and listen to LPs.

Cheers,

Ian
