Don’t exaggerate sweetie
Hemispheres is such a great album…
The Rush albumns on Qobuz are wierd. 2112 is really quiet on the first side, all the 192 versions sound a bit dull. Really odd.
Indeed, another mint LP just sitting there in that old collection waiting to be re-born. Sounds fabulous.
I talk to anyone even Kiwis.
My top 3 Rush albums would be:
- Moving Pictures
- Hemispheres
- Clockwork Angels
An amazing band.
Time for you to have another go at a TT I reckon
Not a chance, between the additional costs the pop crackle etc I couldn’t be bothered.
This!
If an RP3 sounds better than an Ndx2/555 then imagine what an RP8 or 10 would do? I’ve got a Goldnote Mediterraneo/Donatello red/PH10 struggling to beat an NDS/555PS DR. Sometimes I prefer the vinyl but in “real terms” as it stands I reckon the digital is the better source. What you really need is an NDS:grin:
Thought you might say that
Yes cost is high but I have old vinyl and new vinyl , no crackle , pop for me. Maybe I have just been lucky
Yes, maybe “sounding better” might be better expressed as sounding different, with that difference being more noticeable on some recordings more than offers. In the example I was using, I listened to Rush’s “Power Windows” on vinyl and the Core/NDX2 from a rip off the CD. They both sound very good. The digital is clearer and more precise as such. But the vinyl has more punch and grip - especially in the lower end, and for rock music that can be very alluring on a good recording. It is like it has a more authentic rawness or realness to it, even though it is less refined - if that makes sense?
As I mentioned earlier, the price and availability of new vinyl (having to import what I would want to buy) is prohibitive and the NDX2/555PS is a very strong performer, especially with hi-res WAV downloads that cost a third to a quarter the cost of an LP. What I wanted to achieve, was to max out my old Rega Planar 3 so I could enjoy my old collection of good records. The outcome has been better than expected, so it challenges my assumptions in how I arrived at this point. But now I have two good options for listening pleasure. And I use the NDX2 for blurays as well, so that’s another factor, and I’m really very happy with my streaming set-up.
But yes, the cost of a new RP10 versus what I have spent on the NDX2/555PS and I would strongly expect the RP10 to be better and at quite a lower cost, so that’s a revelation for me.
All 3 mediums have the positives and not so positives Mike and it does depend on the recording
Not that I want to get into the usual debate about what’s better over another
What I’ve found though is that where vinyl is well recorded and well pressed it is tops for me, but goodness the cost of the hardware and the vinyl is out of this world
I’ve been purchasing some jazz albums recently remastered on label blue note tone poet
Cost is nuts but the SQ blows me away
Indeed, I sent him an email sometime ago, I would like the split platter conversion doing, and a clamp. Sadly, the clamps were out of stock the last time I asked.
My parents live near Preston, so next time I visit them, I will think about visiting Charles, and going to the North West Computer Museum that has just opened in Wigan. Too much for one day though!
Ooh, fun game!
Fly by night
Farewell to kings
Moving pictures
Oh No!
I can’t do it😱
I couldn’t possibly even begin to rank Rush albums, never mind pick favourites.
2112 is one of my favorites! So many great albums to choose from. Fly by night is also awesome as well as permanent waves!
No one ever picks Permanent Waves but I think it is every bit as good as Moving Pictures.
I do. Probably listen to it most these days. I do prefer side 2. If you ever hear Rush on UK radio these days, there’s a 99% chance it’ll be Spirit of Radio.
Too funny. I thought I didn’t even have it, as it’s not on my Core, so I can’t have the CD. But sure enough, I went off to the record collection and found that I have a mint vinyl of it. Very nice it sounded too.
