I can sense a full blown vinyl convert emerging in the dark with you Mr Mike
That is a special find.
I love going into my collection and picking out something I haven’t played in ages and it’s absolutely perfect😊
Sadly there are rather too many that didn’t come out of the ‘80’s in the best of conditions. Slowly but surely getting copies in better condition from Discogs.
Those last two Rush albums on Vinyl (Counterparts & Test for Echo) are still notable absences from the collection, but at $300 plus for high quality copies…
Quite a few of my covers got water-damaged when the bath overflowed into the music room a while ago, but I did manage to retrieve them quickly enough that the damage was minimal, and the records were okay.
I stopped buying records at the end of the 80’s when I moved to England and didn’t have a hi-fi system, just a Sony Discman. Though eventually I had the Rega and my A60 sent over and it came back with me to NZ in 1997. I’ve only bought a few new records in the last few years after the Rega was serviced (it had stopped playing at the right speed),
Looking at my vinyl collection, I have a lot of original 70’s and 80’s rock: Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Marillion, Rush, Eloy, Yes, Blue Oyster Cult, Diamond Head, Metallic, Iron Maiden, Neil Young, the list goes on… bit of a treasure trove really, looking back at it all.
Yes - and that means original recordings not digitally remastered , which is sometimes a good thing and sometimes a bad
Top band Rush, saw them at Newcastle city hall on the Farewell to Kings tour and later on the Clockwork Angels tour. Much prefer the early stuff. Fly by night through to Grace Under Pressure to me is their best work. Agree Moving Pictures on vinyl is hard to beat SQ is amazing.
Mike, if you were inclined, that treasure trove of vintage vinyl may well be just that. It may be worth just sampling a higher end Rega P10 and getting a few recorded professionally cleaned, just to see what could be liberated from those grooves - may surprise you!
I felt Clockwork Angels really was a return to the sound of the late ‘70’s early ‘80’s Rush.
If I had to pick a favourite Rush album from the 2nd half of their career, it would be Clockwork Angels
That looks to me like a Solidsteel WS-5 wall mount. That is one of the best TT wall mounts I know of. I have one. I don’t use it now, but when we move our system to the living room as planned, the WS-5 will go onto a plaster-on-brick wall for the turntable, since the floor is just too unsteady, even with a full Fraim underneath.
Well spotted, yes it is a WS- 5. It was recommended to me by John at MAX as my mana wall shelf (of many years) wouldn’t accommodate the depth of the MG-1. In readyness for the MG-1, I ran my previous Xerxes X on the WS-5 for about 10 days. I found the WS-5 to be a considerable upgrade over the mana, which was a very pleasant surprise!
Lovely! May it bring you many hours of musical delight.
Best regards, BF
Thank you Bluesfan, I’m very pleased with it, though as predicted, I’m feeling a bit tired this morning!
The Artemis is back and holding speed after an oil change. It took a bit of experimenting to find a viscosity within the right range.
Now with newly arrived Korf tonearm and the SPU Royal N getting the first ride.
It’s on home ground with a Beethoven quartet but I wanted to relax after spending the afternoon setting it up.
Oooh, nice tonearm! I was looking at them just the other day. The ceramic headshell too. Silly question, how does it sound?
What @gthack asked.
I’ve been lusting after this arm since it was in development. Probably won’t be getting one for a while, but might get their headshell.
Just went to lookup the turntable. Interesting experience shall we say…
Guess they’re no longer in operation, even though the menu and header still look hifi related.
Yes the Artemis website is not somewhere it feels safe to spend time these days.
The Korf arm, based on my fairly brief experience, is showing considerable promise in the context of my other arms but the Ortofon cable isn’t suiting the Superline too well. It’s doubling as a pretty effective aerial whether it’s plugged into the tone arm or not so my listening has been accompanied by a bit of low level motorboating, clicking/rustling and a Spanish radio station. Also there’s a very loud reaction to switching the TTps on or off and the turning on the garage light (about as far from my system as an attached garage can be) makes a racket that has me worried for my speakers.
Is that the super groove tonearm?
Yes it is.
Very nice indeed.if it sounds as good as it looks it will be amazing. What cartridge are you running it with?
