One more thumbs up for the aesthetics of the P9…but please believe me, you will find that the P10 is sonically better, in all ways (mine is with Apheta 3). The VPI above must be a matter of personal taste…neither my wife nor I would allow it in our house!

When I bought the second hand Rp10, my wife could not believe it costs 4k new.

Less is more!

It’s more less than more, for the Regas look and finish.
But for sound, it’s competitive with some much more expensive decks.

Sorry FR, but that VPI sure is u-g-l-y…to my eyes.
I’d take the Rega, nails and all, unheard…

It’s all personal taste, of course, but wow, that is not pretty!

P9 is a great looking very good sounding deck. Biased opinion of course since I used to own one.

Disagree with that, I wouldn’t say my old P9 looked cheap at all.

You are a lot here to prefer that old vintage classic look of turntables, like P9, lp12…
For me that Vpi prime signature is much more nice looking, with a high standard finish.
Hopefully all tastes are in the nature.

I had it, as the Rp8, Rp10…and will get a P10 soon. Because I like the simplicity of use , specially when mostly streaming today. And the sound is wonderful.
But for me the fit and finish is poor, not up 4k standard.
Sorry, it’s my opinion. Other think the same.

That’s my old deck! I only sold it back in February. The buyer had the tone arm rewired, fitted a new lid (even though it had already been replaced a few years ago and was completely scratch free) and fitted a new Exact which was faulty (he thought there was a problem with the deck but I knew it was working fine).

He got in touch asking if he could use my original sale pictures to help with selling it which I’m fine with as he’s a decent guy who’s just decided to move away from vinyl.

Cheers, Rack.

Another nice looking and sounding very good for 4k: Avid Volvere.

I bought mine used so didn’t pay anywhere near £4K and I don’t think it was that much new back then either.

The prices of Rega P9, Rp10, and now P10 have not raised a lot.
It’s a good thing however.
The quality of sound is top , and it’s very difficult, quite impossible, to find a more enjoyable sound for the price.
But the look and finish, sorry…it’s another thing.
On the P9, the platter mat is not cut accurately. The wood is cheap and you see the nails .
The Rp10 is looking old quickly, the metal becomes grey, the feet are just glued inside the plastic.

Vive la difference!

Congrats HH. That’s a top-notch TT and agree with you on the looks, fit and finish. Enjoy The Smiths as they should be heard!

Sweet! I take it you’ve been enjoying the vinyl replay then. We have too – in fact over the past month it’s probably been 90/10 vinyl/digital.

That’ being the case I’m def. wanting a tt that’s a bit more on par with our digital. I’m just torn as to which way to go.

Enjoy your vinyl (again)!

It’s two different things isn’t it.

One is general aesthetics. I, like many, prefer the Rega over the VPI here, but that’s very subjective.
The other is the quality of the fit and finish, which you suggest is better on the VPI. Never having handled the latter, I can’t compare myself.

My dealer sells both.
There is also the Vpi classic , which looks more conventional but with high quality finish.
