I fitted the red just to get me going but it so surprised me that I’ve hung on to it for a while. It’s amazing that a bit of careful installation and setup gets the best from a cartridge. I might treat myself to a blue for Xmas

I kept my red stylus for a while and it was great but then bit the bullet and paid for a blue stylus. The end result to me seemed a more detailed fluid sound and I’m not sure why but less surface noise too(?)
I changed one of the turntables recently to a Technics gr which remarkably came with a free ortofon blue cartridge-it felt like Christmas!

You don’t think it’s too big?

He has a few more plinths than I do but I dig it!

Yours is more adequate and proportionate I would say, but of course the taste is different :slightly_smiling_face:

I can upgrade mine in the field to the Master Innovation. :yum:

You can, but I would definitely have been happy with the one you have today, Just right, (lagom) as we say in Sweden

That’s what we say about it here. My wife thinks the Master Innovation looks cool, but that she loves what we have. She enjoys the system as I do and is sitting with me now, listening to some old mono Blue Note jazz (the Tone Poet reissue of Herbie Nichols Trio).

I preferred the look of your previous deck. That was beautiful.

The Ovation? Yes, that is a very handsome deck, but the Innovation I have now is a massive sonic upgrade. More importantly it supports 12" tonearms, and two of them, which is great because I now have stereo and mono versions of my phono cartridges.

I sold the Ovation, but got a great price for it.

It is pretty big the whole thing with the second tonearm mounting is almost 40kg! But it sounds so good :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Probably one of the best looking turntables

Ovation is a pretty looking deck, very similar to my previous performance dc. Have you decided on you phono yet? A few dealers I’ve spoken to say the phono and the to arm to be more important than the cartridge.

At the moment I have a Superline with Supercap DR. I am going to get a Boulder 1108 phono, but I don’t have the funds for it yet.

Few tables I’ve had. Today have none but more and more often think of getting back in with LP12 again.

Rega P8. Good turntable but I couldn’t connect with it. To small and felt like I bought a platter. Played good. Bit dry but with good PRAT.

Then had a VPI. Huge player with pivot arm. Very affordable player. Much more power in the music. I liked the sound more from this one than the P8 but in a different way. P8 might have been tehcnically better but the VPI was groovy.

Onto a Vertere DG-1. Good looking player. But I never got a long with the arm. It felt bit prototype to me.

Then onto LP12 with oak plinth. Really liked this one. Sold it to aford 500/552 which was the right priority.

Would go back to LP12 again if/when it’s time. Overall the best player I’ve had.

Best phono stage I had with these was the Lejonklou Slipsik 7.1. What a great phono stage for its price and size.

The Vertere DG-1s has altered the arm and pivot mechanism slightly. Makes it a bit easier to handle. Put on a challenger PS and it’s an amazing deck.

Love seeing that journey! Particularly the P8 to the opposite end of the spectrum with the VPI!

Here’s my journey, they coexisted, but not for long after buying the Technics. Systemdek IIXE bought in 1991 or 1992 I think, owned for years, went through multiple styluseseses, was how I enjoyed music through most of my adult life. But the Technics is a fantastic replacement. Hoping it sees me out X)

My journey with different turntables is very short. My first was a Thorens TD 166 mk V bought in 1989. It served me well many years. (Picture is not my tt)

In 2020 I got a second hand Dr Feickert Woodpecker. Very happy with this one, and the Hana cart that was added to it.

That Woodpecker is a really nice looking turntable. It looks the tonearm mount cutout allows for mounting a 12" tonearm, yes?
