The Woodpecker TT looks very stylish, but I’d worry about placing records on the bare platter. I suppose that a Linn felt mat, or similar, would sort that.

Thanks. Yes the Woodpecker can be fitted with a 12" tonearm. The Blackbird and Firebird decks from Feickert also allows for two tonearms.

Thanks! I was told the recommended use was without a mat for the Woodpecker. So far I haven’t experienced any problems. The platter seems to be kind to the records. I just use the clamp with enough force to stop the record from any slipping on the platter.

I’ve been putting records on my bare platter (Clearaudio Ovation, and now Innovation) for some 14 years, without issue. The Clearaudio TTs (among others) are not designed to be used with a matt and don’t ship with one.

What problem do you think that would cause that a platter matt solves?

I believe there is a correlation (with exceptions obviously) between decks designed to use (and supplied with) clamps and placing the vinyl on the bare platter.

Ultimately it requires a different degree of design and attention to the platter surface and material than on decks supplied with a matt as the interface. And perhaps motor isolation. Hence the mattless designs tend to be fairly high end.

You do see glass/ceramic clampless no matt platters from time to time on more affordable decks.

It’s certainly easier to keep a bare platter clean compared to felt.

Full disclosure, I have one

My superline is off to Naim for a mod to stop it causing motorboating noises, a rare but known issue with a supercap DR apparently, of my three tone arms it only did it with one of them. Meanwhile…

The stageline N gets the supercap and a 1:26 SUT that I’m trying out specifically for my SPU Century. Waiting for the superline to return is going to be easy, giving it back the supercap less so.

Can that turntable be fitted with two tonearms? Dynavector makes a mono version of the XV-1s, after all.

Hi MikeOz,

What is that Nait50 support please?

It has my attention :grinning:

Hi @Corky,

I bought a flower stand and modified it a bit by adding spikes and removing the wooden shelf. The Nait 1 legs fit perfectly on the iron profile.
