Shunyata Gamma & Theta Ethernet Cables

Has anyone tried the latest 2 ETHERNET cables from Shunyata (Gamma & Theta)? Any feedback?

I haven’t tried Gamma but did try Theta and Omega. Compared to Chord and Melco Ethernet cables the Theta was very dynamic and detailed and an easy choice. The Omega X, which is a completely different league price-wise, was better than the ChordMusic streaming cable. Overall, the cables I heard provided great insight into the recording without seeming to highlight any particular aspect of the music. From what I understand Shunyata’s development of Gamma and Theta resulted in trickle up benefits to the rest of the range which is why there are new X versions of their higher performance cables as Gamma and Theta had become so good that their Alpha range was squeezed.

Thanks for your insight.

I’m very tempted to try a Gamma. Reading between the lines from the Shunyata descriptions, I get the impression that Gamma and Theta are very similar but the Theta is more revealing.

Theta is probably the better cable but I like the price of the Gamma (ÂŁ350).

Can’t find reviews though…

I think they’re too recent for many reviews and in the end, as the various threads here demonstrate, the effects of various Ethernet cables seem to vary from system to system. At the price differential between Gamma and Theta I would imagine they are similar in performance terms, if they work in your system. I have a whole loom of Chord Company power cables and interconnects, so on that basis Chord’s best streaming cable (which is also more expensive than the Shunyata) would seem to have an advantage, but from the outset Shunyata had some performance advantages in terms of low level detail and as the cable burned in its advantages grew.

You should try shunyata… even without x my sigma is stunning. Natural and detailed without special highlighted peaks. As described before

I use numerous Shunyata products. They are all outstanding! I use a Denali S6000 v.2 power distribution with Alpha XC v.2, Alpha NR v.2 on my Integrated amp and DAC. Sigma v.2 USB, Gamma’s on my REL subs.. Shunyata products aren’t cheap but at any given price point they typically punch well above their weight

In US you have also Synergetic Research and Transparent cables. Have you tried ?

I have the Shunyata Venom Ethernet cable which I think was replaced by the Gamma cable. The Venom is superb and has a detailed yet smooth presentation.

Hi Mr Rooster. I haven’t used Synergistic because I think the owner is a douche. I’ve used and owned Tranparent. It works well with certain equipment Wilson, Spectral, Pass, Hegel

Good to know, David. I have to say that I’ve not heard a lot of love for the Venom. Not sure why. I like detailed yet smooth. I imagine the Gamma would fit that description from what little I’ve read about it.

Yes it is good. I replaced my AudioQuest Vodka with it and also compared it with Chord epic and it’s certainly better than both. I understand the Gamma is an improvement on the Venom and cheaper - worth a try.

Just ordered the Gamma. Only way to find out is to try it. Will give my feedback once it’s embedded in my system.

Fingers crossed it ticks my boxes :crossed_fingers:t2:

Douche? In French it’s a shower.

It’s an abbreviation of douchebag, which is a descriptor for an unpleasant, arrogant or obnoxious person. Entertainingly, a friend of mine has used “doosh” (spelt that way) since school as an exclamation that something that is good.

I can’t comment on the Gamma and the Theta but, like Drago, I own Sigma and have heard Omega. Both cables are on another level compared to the normal ethernet cables I have in my collection. There’s a naturalness, ease and tonal accuracy that has to be heard to be believed. The increased richness of a piano key, the inflection in vocals, the added edge definition to everything from a guitar to drums just makes it sound more like live music than anything else I have heard. I would rather drop a power supply on my ND555 than remove my Sigma cable.

High praise indeed, @Geko.

I believe the Sigma uses 2 inline ‘filters’, which I assume are responsible for a significant part of the magic. No such things on a Gamma cable but I will try it with my smoothlan at one end (and the other end into the streamer). I can pretend it’s a sigma on the cheap :joy:

I now use the new Melco C100 Ethernet cable and am a big fan of it for the price.

Tell us how the Shunyata’s compares to Melco.

I really liked the Melco too, it’s no fuss and seemed to work really well, until I tried Theta in its place; more detail, more dynamic, more natural, the difference wasn’t at all subtle. Trying the cables in different positions, say between the server and switching or from the router gave slightly different results but always in Shunyata’s favour. Of course it’s a lot more pricey.

Initial findings with the Gamma Ethernet cable are very positive indeed…

That is no surprise!
