Haha excellent! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it… ![]()
I would say that the introduction of the Shunyata Sigma ethernet cable in my system made a bigger difference than going from Lavender to Super Lumina. In fact I think there are quite a lot of similar qualities between the Sigma and Super Lumina. They both have a transparency and unforced signature that makes them sound very natural and real.
I feel like Mulder in the X Files - I want to believe. That said, none of the ethernet cables I’ve tested have made any noticeable difference in sound over the Catsnake or BJC cables I’ve had in the system for a while.
I’m not sure whether to be happy that I’ve not felt like I need a $$$$ cable, or worried that I must be missing something… ![]()
Hi, what have you tested?
There’s not that many available for demo here in NZ, but I started with random CAT5 cables from my computer bin, then BJC, and now Catsnake (I’ve currently got Catsnake between my PN and ND555). Along the way I’ve tried a few Chord cables (Clearway, C-Stream, Epic and Signature X), plus some Nordost Heimdall 2.
I probably should try putting a drive in my Core again to see if I can hear any difference, compared to using the NAS for storage. And maybe plug the NAS in to my PN as opposed to having it hanging off the switch in the study. But it’s not like the NAS is directly streaming to the ND555 - everything passes through the Core, which is also connected to the PN.
I also have some Catsnake, BJC, Chord C-stream and a couple of other odd-ball cables and would say that they all have their own ‘tonal’ idiosyncrasies but they are all playing in the same ball-park. It wasn’t until I tried Sigma that I heard how much more transparent a relatively simple ethernet cable could be. The tonal accuracy, poise and naturalness was somewhat of a revelation to me, and probably the only thing that has (fundamentally) moved my system on in the last couple of years. If you haven’t tried this level of ethernet cable and have the system able to exploit it I would strongly urge that you give it a go but beware it’s very addictive!

Between the Blue Jeans and Catsnake I felt a very noticeable difference when i tested them at that time. The BJ was leaner but well balanced and natural. The CS was fatter but with inflated bass.
The Diamond was well much better vs both, more textured, with tighter and more resolved bass, with more nuances and colours.
I remain skeptical, but with a 60 day return period have nothing to lose.

It seems that I need to go back and try them again… ![]()
Maybe on your system the difference was not noticeable. When I compared I had the Etheregen switch with a linear ps and my Melco.
Spot on. I think that catsnake and vodka play in the same league - with some ups and downs on both side - I preferred vodka.
Diamond and sigma played in a totally different league - suddenly music emotionally clicks in. And this emotional immersion is the main characteristic from sigma!
I have never heared chord music - but my heart tells me it is similar.
I bought the sigma at last step to get warm with 500dr and 2nd ps. I was warm the second the sigma was in. It brought a textured lovely character - almost like vinyl.
Less powerful than diamond but so much more connecting.
I had this diamond vs sigma moment again in January… when switching from nd555 to nds…

You will not return it !
I wouldn’t dream of spending that amount of money. It’s only curiosity to see if my skepticism is justified. (I’m betting it is).

I was so much in your boat until…
Sigma with 2k Euro is similar to a Box upgrade with 10k…
You can return sigma as well. Your system will show - I am convinced.
I’d only borrow what I might buy.

Fair move! I do the Same. But maybe the „lower range“ cable will bring up „want more“ feelings
I was in the same position and consequently very sceptical of high-end claims. But the Shunyata Omega is the real thing. Totally won me over and in short order. Bought two. Previously, I would have very confidently bet against that…
It’s not a myth with shunyata Ethernet! Don’t know how they do it, but the difference is really huge and noticeable even when the system is so evolved that smaller steps are normally in the 10k range.
Hi @GraemeH - did you get a gamma? Any thoughts to share?
