SN2 vs SN3

Andrew Everard is a safe bet for Naim…

A cracking review. The statement towards the end of the article “keeping the Supernait 3 firmly in place as a domestically acceptable way of achieving the best Naim can do, without filling the room with multiple black boxes” really does reinforce that when done well, an integrated amp is a truly desirable proposition.

But, if i m not wrong he doesn’t make any comparison

Not sure what you mean.

He will be watching…and he has a sense of humour😉

I feel restless now having read that review…

Same here!

Somewhat embarrassingly he uses ‘Mullet’ when he means ‘Monkfish’

Stop reading and enjoy music

There is always something better

Someone out there is always enjoying more music for less

Ahahah…i mean that andrew everard is a long time sn2 owner. He is auditioning sn3, he clearly state that it is sn improvement but there is no a clear description of a side by side comparison

A very good review but what puzzles me is mention of a mini usb connection for “firmware upgrades”. Given that there is no digital processing in the SN3, why does it have firmware and what does it do?

It’s for the switching and control software.

Thanks for that clarification Richard - how did we manage before computers?

Having now read the review and being a satisfied SN2 to SN3 upgrader myself, I have to say that I found the ‘review’ to be more of a preview or an expression of how pleased Andrew is with the product.
The review would have been better if he had referenced some bad points and pointed out some aspects of what other manufacturers do better in terms of SQ.
I remember that HiFi News reviews used to be very in depth and I guess that is the type of review I would like to see.

We got off our arses.

As a SN2 owner, we all knew NAIM would upgrade the product. While the phono option is low on my list of priorities, I do have to question a lot of the audiophile hyperbole that gets spewed here. Actually, the SN2 received much of the same hyperbole when it debuted and somehow it’s now all gone?

The fact that this forum has always overdramatically gushed about NAIM’s latest and greatest without the least bit of realistic temperament means that I take all of the hyperbole at this forum with a massive grain of salt.

I’ll wait for more reviews, especially outside of this forum. Yes, I’m sure the SN3 is better in some ways but I’d like a little more quantification in this regard.

My SN2 has never lacked in bass when paired with my Dynaudio Focus 260 speakers. In fact, I’ve received complaints it can put out too much bass. I don’t need any more.

Exaggerations here go proportionally to the price of the gear. The SN2 still belongs to the real sane world.

Yes @GTaudiophile, the SN3 does sound better (to my ears and in my system) but it is by no means night and day over the SN2. In fact that term night and day is certainly over used. To me a night and day difference is an old mono gramophone 78rpm with horn vs the best available stereo system today.

I like your term ‘sane world’. To me the SN3 with NDX2 is as far as I need to go and keep my sanity. Judged purely on my readings of these forums, I imagine anything ‘better’ becomes so sensitive to ancillary equipment, cables etc. that it would drive me insane worrying about cables touching the floor and what to consider next!
