Have never had an issue with my SN2 sounding bright nor having a narrow soundstage…
Let’s face it — even without phono stage, the SN3 wouldn’t have been a single quid cheaper… The phono stage is a freebie…
Again, neither do I; the SN2 is a fantastic integrated, among the best in the market in its price level, I have enjoyed it to the fullest for 2 intense months of great introspective and audition, and I would not have changed it if it were not for the failure that it presented. But look at my comments above, and the answer to Slamdam… It is a fact, comparatively, the sound of the SN3 is rounder, more balanced, just as good in mids and treble, but much better in bass, and that produces a warmer and more relaxed sound than that of the SN2, as well as more, much more would say, 3D soundstage; or, if you prefer, the SN2 sounds brighter, more “into the face,” compared to SN3.
That’s what’s there, honestly; and I say I think the SN2 seems incredible to me, I would never have swaped it if door of opportunity hasn’t opened as it did, and I would live happily with it convinced of its fantastic sound.
Regards.
A fantastic and sensational freebie then, as it’s surprisingly good.
Regards.
Has anyone other than a dealer obtained an SN3 in the U.S.?
All my dealer can tell me is that they will ship this month (November).
I talked to him about a Headline 2 and he told me to wait for my SN3.
Bud
My dealer in Seattle sent out an email that limited number had been received and a large shipment was expected this month and their would be plenty to go around for those that wanted them.
He recently put up his demo SN & XS 2 units up for sale and took a peak at his site and the XS 2 is still available at a wonderful price.
I pre-ordered my SN3 last month. The only ones shipped so far are to dealers.
If your dealer sold his, he must expect a new one soon.
Bud
I received mine at the beginning of october.
I ordered it in mid august.
I am in Canada.
I think he gave you good advice; you may be surprised by the SN3 phono stage…
Cheers.
I have Sennheiser HD 800 S that have an impedance of 357 ohms. It works fine with the SN2. However, I also have Audeze LFD 4’s which have a much higher impedance and it sounds pretty bad. I saw a review of the SN3 and they said the only thing wrong with is it couldn’t deal with high impedance headphones.
Apparently, they didn’t raise the headphone output current in the SN3.
Thanks
Yes, sorry, I want meant/wrote headphones amp-stage.
I can’t find the Audeze LFD-4s; if it is also a mistake of the elves and were the LCD-4s, the impedance is 200 Ohms, lower than the Seneeicher although, yes, still very high.
I enjoy Audeze LCD-XC, AT W1000 Sobereign and AKG Q-701 QJ, and none have such high impediance, so they already sounded pretty good with the SN2 (I haven’t been able to wear them yet with the SN3); so much so that, for now, I have retired my dedicated Violectric HPA V281.
Cheers.
You are correct, it was a typo on my part. I did mean LCD-4. I was also wrong on the impedance.
Bud
Both my Audeze (LCD3 and LCD XC) sound great out of the SN3 h/phone out
Intrigued by the Headline tho - but another two boxes - I’ll try and hear one with my LCD3.
Hi all out there.
UPDATE…
I repeat myself in the initial assessments; as the system settles, now with around 40 hours of operation, the features, sound and performance perceived in the first instance take hold. To my mind and for my ears, the SN2 is a magnificent integrated amplifier, and the SN3 is still better, more complete and with a rounder and more balanced sound.
Greetings to the forum.
Did you compare the Supernait 2 with NDX 2 to the Supernait 3 with NDX 2?
All the best
Lucifer
Hi.
Not really; as noted, Cyrus Stream Xa > Audioquest Water > SN2 sound (from relatively recent memory) vs. NDX2 > Chord SE Tuned Aray DIN-DIN > SN3 sound; same records.
So, yes, there would be a factor of caution discounting the source and the wire improvement, although I think not so much in this last as in the source. Even so, I think the traits of SN2 and SN3 are themselves quite marked.
Greetings.
Yes, just a thought as a different source would most likely change sound even more than different amps. I’m guessing the difference between a Cyrus source and a Naim source would be quite obvious while a difference between two Naim amplifiers in the same price bracket might not be. Let alone two different Supernaits as that is essentially the same amplifier but on the other hand I haven’t heard either of the sources or the amlifiers so I should stay out of this. Was just curious
The Cyrus x stream costs 1,5 k. The difference must be not minimal vs an ndx2.
What about SN2 with HiCAPDR compared with a SN3 on its own or with HiCAPDR
Just wondered
