So What Is The Reason For The Switch From Green To White-Exactly?

For what it’s worth and having had the 300 series in the room, I think it looks really good. The only mistake in my view was not equipping the new classic with the ability to switch between green and white to better integrate with legacy systems.

This in white would be so bland and big tech boring. :green_heart:

I didn’t know that until I read yours and Richard’s responses! Bit of googling.

Personally green or white is not the issue for us, but SWMBO and myself both like the consistency in the rack at the moment. Even the Sky Q box has a green LED  OCD overload.

It would have been nice if naim could have supplied new amps with green logos at customer request. We might have moved from 300DR to 350s already if that was the case! When you’re spending £10k+ the customer is always right, no?

Our Core (white light) is hidden out of sight.

And the LED on my NAIT was red, not something they stayed with. (I think the earlier models were red LED before they moved to green (still with the white logo) Richard would know for sure.)

Red is a nasty colour on the eyes, not sure we’d ever have gotten onboard with naim kit if the LED were still red!!! Imagine red logos, urgh.

My old Micromega transport/DAC had red backlight, fortunately the lights/displays could be set to “off”. The kit had sleek looks but I never 100% loved the red.

Rotel also had red lights, doubled when you bridged them.

Glad we moved to green! Actually love the soft warm glow in a darkened room. And yesterday we worked out that the Sky Q remote flicks our new remote controlled Christmas tree lights into different colour patterns or cycles. When you press Sky Q volume up (which we never actually use because TV is muted) it switches all the Christmas tree candles to……. Green!!! Yay

Yeah I have several non hifi products that have three LEDs (RGB) behind a diffuser and the software lets you pick any shade you want. One has 10 brightness setting per lamp giving you 1000 colours to choose from.

Yes, an option that would cost all of 2p for an RGBW LED.
It’s a shame Naim didn’t offer at least a green/white toggle in the app.

And where they have used an RGBW and set it to be green, they completely failed to select a “Naim Green” i.e. the ND5XS2 power LED

Or, perhaps this was a conscious decision after all!?

I am surprised we have not had a thread yet asking whether a green logo sounds better than a white logo!! (or vice versa)

I think the latest Cyrus kit gives the option to change LED and background colour to fit in with legacy systems.

Green sounds classic
White sounds bright.

A like the new logo floating InSite the thick Perspex centre section. White works with the NC design ethos following statement.

Personally I’d prefer all illuminated logos off, with the option of them auto illuminating when you physically approach the boxes… that would be cool and un obtrusive. I find anything permanently lit is intrusive in a living space… and I defo don’t want lit brand icons… if I want lights I go to Blackpool.
It’s my only criticism of the N50… with its new Naim off-white power indicator.

Good point. Obviously relatively easy to action and the likes of Atom/Nova etc have proximity sensor for the screen, also on the dial of the Mu-so’s…Would have been a nice option in user settings.

Aside from that, can’t actually believe this is a thread…! It’s not hard to grasp, either from a design or (re)brand exercise…

It’s that time of year….

I personally don’t like white and blue LEDs. It’s mostly too bright at the evening. And it has this cheap touch of Chinese products.

But regarding the rebranding, look what Jaguar just did (or Tata):

Really? You mean like the white of Apple? Or Ubiquiti UniFi…or perhaps dCS…?
Fine to have a dislike or preference which end of the colour spectrum you like, but really not sure about the outdated association of cheapness re a manufacturing country….I guess Apple and, more specifically Naim, should cease manufacture of products in China for ‘quality’ reasons then….?

Apple: ‘Designed in California’
Naim: ‘Designed in UK by Naim Salisbury’
Etc…

Where the white LEDs are soldered to the boards is basically irrelevant….

Naim should have taken a leaf out of the Alpine play-book. I’ve been able to change the colour of my Alpine display to any colour within the rainbow for about 40 years!

No commercial links in here please. thanks.
