Fair comment…I already have a Superline/Supercap so the package probably isn’t as good as far as its PSU/preamp combo goes either.
Thanks. I do have a Superline/Supercap and an Ortofon Winfeld ti so it just may be a double up to a degree. It’s a shame they didn’t end up doing just the turntable
You can still but a brand-new Solstice for $AUD14,999 (RRP$34500) in Australia. Rumour has it the previous importer ordered far too many …
Yes am aware of it and was the reason for the original post but as it’s a package including PSU and phono pre (have a superline/supercap) I’ve now discounted it as a contender. Yes they have been discounting this SE package on and off since they lost the importer licence for Naim…they then pulverized the second hand market offloading excess stock in the process…
It can be discussed whether this is tempting.
Looking at new RRP, it is of course, but the original price was overpriced to put it mild.
Maybe instant reselling the phonostage and cartridge could be possible?, would make a purchase more on level with competitors around, that is IF ? you really want this deck.
There’s certainly other very good turntables out there, if cost no object.
Resell value is something few think about when doing such purchase, but if Naim could’t sell 500, then prepare to keep it in the long run.(decades)
Agreed. The forum has helped make the decision easier and not in fact go down this path for the time being
You have to remember that the two recent special issues, Solstice and Naim 50 have not been resounding commercial successes for Naim.
Neither selling out and prices are desperately falling so that dealers can recoup their investment in their stock that was not sold.
DG….
I’m not saying this turns around your assessment of commercial success, but didn’t Naim themselves sell out of both? It’s the dealers who are left with stock. Which might make dealers reluctant to purchase future limited editions in volume, unless the item is very special? But still means Naim sold all the Solstices and NAIT50s they made?
Yes, dealers bought them as they have to buy all stock. Commercial success as in not very popular, so the dealers are left with the stock that is not selling.
If I was a dealer, I would certainly have second thoughts about stocking future Naim special editions.
DG…
I understood that Naim sent all the 500 Solstice all around the world, to dealers.
AFAIK, like anything else, dealers could choose, and did not have to buy in the Solstice.
That doesn’t answer my comment that you quoted.
It is appreciated that dealers have a choice to stock what they wish to hold and sell. My point was, if you fully read the post, that although buying and holding stock, the products in question were not a commercial success. Borne out by a number of posts citing cheap Naim 50s to try a move the stock on, plus the debacle about the Solstice cartridge and counterweight.
Now, back to your comment about choice. Perhaps dealers will now exercise their choice more cautiously with regard to future Naim products.
DG…
DG, I don’t have the data to show whether either were successful for Naim or not, so can’t really comment one way or the other on that score.
I wasn’t asking you to comment.
My post was more of a general statement.
DG…
You don’t need to ask, but your post certainly invited further comment, just in case your statement of opinion was mistaken for fact.
As I say, I can’t provide the facts as I don’t have the necessary information.
Thank you for confirming that my opinion was not a statement of fact.
DG…
That’s his opinion.
If I was in the market for such turntable I’d definitely consider a Vertere.
I had the chance to listen to some of these decks during the years, its likely the very best turntable replay I ever heard.
Made by the designer Touraj himself, a very talented one, the man behind Roksan.
Not something made by third party brands.
Rega Naia would be my next bet, then a LP12 build by Cymbiosis.
The Lotto is waiting ![]()
That’s a decision I’ll never regret.

If I were looking for a new turntable I’d look no further than a Technics SL-1200G
Direct Drive Turntable. Probably better than a Solstice or any high end Linn for a fraction of the price. Don’t waste your money folks. Also a lot easier to run and maintain in the long run.
