Is the Wall Shelf nicely attached to the wall??
That appears to defy the laws of physics!
I hope for your sake the wall is nice and solid
Wow😳
What dealer charges £3k a year to keep an LP12 current?
It’s an average - Kandid, Keel, Karousel, Radikal, Urika…some more…some less… Service here and there… Some years I spent nothing, some years I spent £6k
You’re taking it literally to make a point though - so
Peggy Suicide - what a GREAT Album… Safesurfer is an absolute fave… HEAVY!!
Wonderful MC!! I am jealous, and happy for those 500 folks all at the same time. I am sure you will have a new found enjoyment with your vinyl collection when the package arrives. As you said, it just became a hassle, and not enjoyable, and you will now be have 1 of 500 of something truly limited and special.
Scott
Yep. It’s as solid as a rock. Not moved for 3 years so think I’m safe
You really don’t like Linn, do you? Never really understood the it’s fiddly to use/goes of tune criticisms of the LP12. At least my Ekos has an arm lift.
After being set up by a competent dealer, my LP12 has stayed in tune and performed reliably for many years. I’m contemplating an upgrade now because the cartridge needs replacing and I’m interested in finding out if the upgrades since I bought my LP12 are genuine improvements.
As I said in another thread, I would consider the Solstice if I had the chance to compare it against the Klimax LP12 and any other turntables in the same price range that my dealer can demo. But I’m not prepared to be rushed into a decision just for the privilege of owning a limited edition.
I agree Paul, the Linn is almost plug and play these days.
The Solstice would have to better the LP12 by quite a margin for me to be interested tbh. I think it looks great and hope it’s a success, but I would lose too much in selling the Linn for one. I look forward to reading some comparisons though.
No problem getting a solstice if you want one, they certainly haven’t all sold over night, the dealer i spoke to just a few days ago, had only sold one so far.
Think thats the reason they limited it, to try and get them sold asap, kind of force you to buy so you dont miss out, sort of thing. Only problem with that is if they all dont sell very quickly, then it makes it all look a bit foolish.
Dont think many will buy without hearing one, as why would you? As its the sound it makes, that makes you want it, as its certainly not the nicest thing to look at.
Just because its made by naim is not enough these days i feel.
I also dont think many guys with big spec sondek’s are going to be interested, as its a very different turntable, one is constantly being upgraded and has so many different options, that you can tailor to your own needs and sound, the other more a take it or leave it approach.
I’ve spent £1000s on Linn over the years - had two LP12s - and always at or around the highest spec. So it’s not for lack of trying!
No - it’s the lego approach I can’t reconcile anymore - it’s just a recipe for inconvenience and inconsistency.
Like I’ve said elsewhere - I want to buy a product, not an kit car with sketchy instructions and a philosophy course bundled in.
Maybe an SME, or VPI, ClearAudio? The VPI Direct Drive sounds amazing with nothing much to futz around with. The Basis table also are set and forget and sound beautiful,
In the past I had a couple of Thorens decks. The last turntable I had was VPI TNT lll, with a Graham 1.5 arm and Van den Hul Frog. I got tired of E’ffing around with VTA, Azimuth, Anti skate, Tracking Force, SRA. Then cartridge loading and so on. That’s when I moved to the Dark Side.
VPI’s do absolutely nothing for me…personally do not see the attraction.
SME has the quality build but the one’s I have heard were a bit boring. Not heard many Clearaudio models.
I am most intrigued with the Aro mk2.
Thanks so much for your opinion. Have you listened to a few different VPI tables, arms , cartridges to arrive at your opinion?
Just don’t like the appearance , that’s all.
A tad bit aggressive on your part but that’s how it goes sometimes I guess…
I was a bit harsh. Sorry. Maybe saying the VPI aesthetic doesn’t appeal to me might have been more appropriate? Because they do sound excellent.
No problem Opus…we all have our own opinions on these things. Part of the fun!
I hope to be some of the first to hear the new NAIM Solstice deck on demo at my dealers in a couple of weeks time - so I am open minded to the demo and will of course post my thoughts and comments (photos ) on here first
I am an LP12 owner and have been for some 20 years , when you purchase an LP12 you know, or should know the road is open on an LP12 - a number of members I know have upgraded thier decks over the years and some have left them well looked after and as close to orginal as posible with servicing, similar to Crome bumper and olive
does the LP12 take a lot of setting up? - NO but it needs to be set up correctly and placed on the correct muscial support just like any premium hifi, so letss discard the theory the LP12 is a difficult beast
mine has been in place since June of last year and apart from the odd clean and reamoving of lid thats it !!
the one thing I can say with out doubt is a well set up and looked after LP12 is one of the finest musical sources in the HIFI world - that is not going to change
I await with interest hearing to Solstice in early July
I’ve owned a LP12 since the mid 80’s. Over the years it’s been regularly serviced and had plenty of upgrades. I like it’s sound and don’t find it problematic whatsoever.
After servicing it gets placed on its wall stand and stays there until cartridge needs replacing and next service. No fiddling or messing about required.
