Creating a Large Acker Bilk playlist this eve, on Tidal via Naim App which I am now enjoying . In his lifetime Acker and I were good mates down Bristol way - he is much missed..
It reminded me that Acker could not abide Stanger On The Shore! The poor guy was always having to play or record it as it was so popular!
If you create a Tidal playlistvia the Naim App, it seems you can only delete individual tracks after the playlist is complete. I deleted 7 of the above-mentioned tracks. My other pet hate is any version of Jolene by Dolly Parton . I have lost track of how many times I have deleted that song!
So come on good folks, tell us some songs you just have to delete!
Money for Nothing by Dire Straits, so cheesy & incredibly irritating, (same can be said for the the Brothers In Arms album IMHO). I worked in HMV when it came out, disliked it from the first listen and had to listen to it day in day out for months.
I disliked Brother in Arms when it came out, but listened to it recently without my 80s prejudice against them and thought it was a great album. However, I understand your experience at the record shop when you listen to the same songs day in, day out. I worked at Woolworths during the Christmas period and to this day canāt stand 95% of the songs from that NOW Christmas album. It was a form of torture, and every December since then, you get that Groundhog Day experience.
There are many songs and much non-vocal music I cannot stand. But normally I donāt need to delete them as I simply avoid buying/downloading, and I completely avoid genres where most falls into that category (e.g. jazz & soul). On albums I have bought there have occasionally been the odd track that I couldnāt stand, though quite rare - and my switch to streaming, whether ripping vinyl, CD or downloading, made it easy to delete any such tracks so they no longer exist for me and I tend forget the track was ever on the album when I play them - and means I canāt search for them to list here! The only one I can immediately recall is the cover of I feel pretty on Tarja Turunenās Beauty and the beat album.
I suspect your reference to Acker Bilk not liking to play some thing is rather different as I assume that is a piece of music of his own, perhaps from early output, but so popular with fans that it was requested/expected at every gig? I think that is a common issue for musicians, who want to move on with only a few longstanding pieces of music that they love enough themselves to want to keep playing, whereas audiences want to hear the music that they like best, often older popular things.
I used to work at Dixons as a student and the manager at the time ran the Cliff Richard fan clubā¦ He tried to restrict us to using his CDs for demosā¦ there was an unusually high number of incidents of CDās being left in microwaves and completely accidental CD crackingā¦
