I have resurrected my old Naim equipment: NAP 180, NAC 92 and Credo speakers, adding a Rega 6RS Planar turntable soon. We want to postion the speakers in a better place and our current cables won’t reach - no idea what they are.
I need to upgrade but am looking at 7.5 m so would need 2 x that. Naim NACA5 would be a bit high up on my budget. Could anyone recommend for this set up, feeling a bit lost as I know nothing about speaker cables - be kind. I have been told to avoid anything that mentions silver with Naim and that Chord company and QED are good.
I think the first step to take is to read this in the FAQ re. Naim Amps and speaker cable;
If NACA5 is too much of a stretch for you cost-wise then look at cables similar to the older NACA4; Linn K20 is a popular choice. You also have similar figure eight construction cables like Cable Talk (IIRC currently being sold as Talk 6?). Be sure that you use Naim SA8 speaker connector at both ends, properly soldered. If in doubt, I’m sure your Naim dealer could supply the plugs and solder them for you.
A lot depends on where you are, but if you are in the U.K. you can often find used NacA5 on eBay or elsewhere. I’ve just checked and there is a pair of 7m cables with Naim plugs at one end for under £300. NacA5 is the perfect match for older Naim amplifiers such as your 180.
Great. They are located less than a mile from my house as it happens. They do look a good deal. With the money saved, have a look around for a nice olive Hicap at some point. With the Rega you will have a lovely system.
