Speaker stands

Hi all, I have just placed an order for a pair of Oephi Lounge 2 speakers, 35 cm x 18.5 cm x 30 cm, so quite deep.

The dealer supplied stands from Norstone (£130), which I quite like, but I think the speakers need a more solid support.

The dealer uses SolidSteel 6 in store, and I know they are very popular with people on this forum.

Problem is, I think they’re hideous and remind me of the War of the Worlds tripods, and not in a good way.

I might end up getting them if they really are the best stand for these speakers, but I thought I would ask here before I make a decision (should be hearing them tomorrow).

What I am looking for is something a bit more substantial that will hold them in place without any rocking.

Floor is carpet/underlay on floorboards.

I had a quick scoot around the Community posts and I got some good tips on getting the spikes to connect well with the floorboards.

I have a pair of Kan II stands, which are very good, but I think I need something bigger (especially the top plate).

I have seen pics here of ATC SCM20’s on what looks like very solid stands. I wonder what they are?

Money? I don’t know but £600 for SS6’s seems quite enough!

Any thoughts?

Thx, Tony

Maybe try Dynaudio (Model Stand 20) or Atacama HMS2X

I would let someone build bigger top plates for the Linn Kan II stands, they are hard to beat.

Go and have a look at Custom Designs - they can make anything that you want. You can choose height, base plate size, number of support columns etc. very reasonable too. I bought a pair for my ProAc D2Rs and have been very impressed

Hi @Cluffy, the first one’s very similar to the Norstone I’ve been trialing, but the Atacama looks like the sort of thing I was thinking of with the ATC SCM20’s comment.

Never dealt with Atacama, does one deal direct or go through a dealer. Would be good to have a listen first.

Good price too!

Thanks

Interesting!

Checkatrader?

Good call!

Cheers,

Just remove the top plate and take it to someone

Another vote for custom designs, assuming you are based in the uk. I bought from them before, and have another order ongoing right now. Lots to look at on their website and they will build to required dimensions.

Whether this was a good idea or not, when I first started down my hifi path a friend of mine used to have Monitor Audio R252s on Kan I stands (single leg). The 252s weighed 7kg and were about 50x25x25 cm.

Presumably the Kan Il design is an improvement.

Yes ,the Linn Kan II is much better .

I am in the UK, in sunny Essex.

In fact I bought my equipment stand from Custom Designs, very special offer, really just a holding pattern until I decide if I can bring myself to buy a Fraim £££.

It is very solid, if a bit ’industrial’.

Yes that’s what I have in my shed - Kans sold a year or so ago. :slightly_smiling_face:

I remember those stands from previous systems. Spiked to the floor sounded great with the Kans. Just wish there was a little give in them so that when I hit them with my little toe it was less painful - almost as painful as a lego brick!

I found them very accomodating when I phoned.

Full disclosure, I own these with my Titan 505’s, however, I’ve yet to see a more attractive stand with the robust nature of the Kudos stands, ie doesn’t look like scaffolding, and you can add further mass if you feel it necessary to do so…… if you can pick them up that is .

Definitely worth an audition…… appreciate taste is a very subjective thing :see_no_evil_monkey::hear_no_evil_monkey::speak_no_evil_monkey:.

Having had a quick look, the only downside now is their cost :scream::scream::scream:

If your dealer uses Solidsteel SS6 and recommends them, it’s for good reason. They’re very well made and quite reasonably priced compared to other options. They also have plenty of fans and satisfied users here on the forum. Taste is always subjective. I find my SS6 blends in very well with my room. And you may have noticed that, as well as black, the SS6 is also available in white or steel finishes.
You can find plenty of images via Google Image Search.

I certainly did not intend to offend anyone, as you say it’s personal taste. I also made the very points you do, they are clearly effective.

Your set up looks marvellous :slightly_smiling_face:

But I’ll struggle with them visually, but I acknowledge their strengths

Thanks for your response.

What kind of speakers are those?

If only you could still get hold of the Target R2 stand, it’s near immovable and I bought them decades ago with ProAc studio 100 which they were made for.

Don’t know if Partington are still going but they had their Dreadnought , which had a similar approach.
