Stinkers

Okay, not all that listens is gold. Some albums surely should never have been made.

Examples?

It’s so tempting to say everything by…
…and then include lots of bands/artists that people rave about and I consider to be talentless hacks!
BUT
I shall resist and just say Genesis: Invisible Touch
Definitely an album by “Members of Genesis” but so NOT a Genesis album😉

I was tempted to post saying that awful album DSOTM was a good example. But I won’t now, following your lead.

It may be controversial but I would say all of Scott Walkers albums after ‘Till the band comes in’.

Weird subject, as I could suggest all jazz but others might disagree…

Of all albums I have bought one stands out, and though now about 50 years ago was the last album I bought purely on the strength having liked all of a band output before it so presuming would be good: King Crimson’s Earthbound - a live album which was so poorly recorded that I feel sure it was done with a cheap portable cassette recorder with inbuilt microphone, tucked inside someone’s coat pocket, while they were standing very close to one of the speaker rigs: Heavily distorted and with rolled off treble and bass, only one track even remotely listenable. in my view it should never have been made, and destroyed any interest I had in the band.

Sorry Kevster, can’t agree with the last one and I put the other 2 in reverse order. I’d also replace the last one with The Final Cut…:face_with_peeking_eye::man_construction_worker:t4:

That’s his best album IMO

I think my copy cost £1.49 (new) when I bought it. There is a good band somewhere in that “sound quality”

Oddly, because it is not only a great album, but a good recording, and interesting, too, with its delving into holophonics.

There was a good band in the years before. I haven’t liked the way they progressed after, so it was a turning point to me. But the key question is what moved them to release such an awful recording, by far the worst sound quality I have ever heard., yet it was an official Island release not. Bootleg!

Perhaps a "contractual obligation " fulfilled?

I bought a few records in my youth that I find unlistenable now. But even back then I found In the Wake of Poseidon somewhat lacking, to say the least. One of the few LP’s I have ever given away.

My favourite musician is Pat Metheny. I have all his official releases, plus a few bootlegs, but this one only got played once. Yes, Zero Tolerance for Silence. One critic said it is an album nobody understands.

But the list of albums that should never have been made is almost infinite.

One could say that if the Gallaghers parents had used contraception we wouldn’t have had to suffer Oasis first time, never mind again now pension pot is getting low.
Ok it’s controversial!!!

Not me.

But I would suggest changing the “all” to “almost all”.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of badly recorded live albums around, especially from the 60s and 70s. There were a few though that were well recorded and where the band was even better. Space Ritual is an example of a well-recorded one.

Maybe controversial, maybe OTT, but 2 good albums doesn’t excuse them for being complete t**ts
