Streamer for Nait 50

@110dB posted a (tiny) bit of info on the NP800 vs the 810:

By the wayā€¦
Very happy with nd5xs2/nDAC/XPs on nait50. Even with wlan works very fine. But source is a bit out of balance as a lot more expensive than amp ā€¦ source first

Dont worry about it Iā€™ve had Ā£17k on the end of my Nait 50

TEAC option. A NT-505x. In black.

Anyone ever tried one of these?

Didnā€™t want to post a link to another site but details onTEACā€™s website.

Add a 9000CDT, might be nice system. There is a matching TEAC transport but I canā€™t see it in the UK

Hi Jamie, there is a TEAC high end CD transport planned but no date set

This looks interesting.

No WiFi (ethernet only), Headphone Jack or Bluetooth. Nice.

How do you like the Wattson mobile app? Is it quick and stable?

Thx

Hello,
I find it excellent, stability, quick and user-friendliness.

Agreed - come on Naim, give us a CB shoe-box streamer - no knobs, no screen.

Eversolo DMP-A6 is garnering high praise and comes in two models one with an improved clock. All users I know very very happy with it.

Iā€™ve paired my NAIT50 with a Cambridge Audio MXN10. I liked its small size and lack of screen and the sound is fine for my needs (for now) as a second system.

Iā€™m only aware of one (more or less) equal priced competitor, the Cambridge CNX V2, all others being far more expensive. From what Iā€™ve been reading the Eversolo is far better, and slightly cheaper to boot.

Iā€™d be interested in what other competitors there are in that price range.

I can never be bothered to watch lengthy videos. If there really are any, Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll come across them at some point. But atm Iā€™m only aware of one, and thatā€™s inferior.

I donā€™t really understand the popularity of video as a medium for reviews. Reading can be done at oneā€™s own speed and you can scan a text for a specific bit of information.

Why not just write it up?

Here itā€™s over 26 minutes and all I want to know is which competitors there are within the price range. Possibly mentioned in single sentence.

Sorry for the rant BTW.

Iā€™m with you there. Most ā€œreviewersā€ have all the visual appeal of a city bus. Letā€™s keep video for those things that we need to ā€œseeā€.

What you mention I do plenty. But somehow havenā€™t come across a similarly priced alternative except the one mentioned.

I havenā€™t tried the Eversolo but may well do. Clearly, some on this very forum rate it.

I suppose I do wonder if thereā€™s a whiff of Emperorā€™s new clothes about it as some of the reviews are very gushing indeed. Otoh I can see there has been some past commentary about the experimental nature of some of its software, though hopefully that is now in hand.

I did read what seemed a relatively objective review which almost damned it with faint praise and summarised it as sounding a bit on the ā€˜dryā€™ side while being immensely capable. Canā€™t remember where but Iā€™m sure Google would find it.

I guess the best judge is oneself and although it may be tricky to audition, a no quibble return and refund could be the ticket!

And yes, video reviews?! Dreadful concept and most are dreadfully executed, usually by folks either with virtually no charisma or by those in need of a Mogodon.

An entirely different approach would be to add a decent digital audio player. So not shoe box size, but walkman size. AK have various models at different price points and some even have two DACs with both a 3.5 mm line out and balanced outputs. It streams Tidal and Qobuz via wifi. Plus, it is obviously dual use: paired with a good set of headphones and loaded with hi res files it is an excellent portable player.

I picked up the Wattson Emerson Analog on Friday.
I went the less is more route with the device having no,

  • Wifi
  • Bluetooth
  • Headphone Jack or
  • Screen

The Emerson & Nait 50 look great together (imo) and sounds even better.

@Daan

This sounds very interesting. And small. Are any of the AK players Roon Ready? Do any have RCA outs?
