It was sad to hear that the legendary phono stage has been discontinued. I only found out a week ago when I enquired about placing an order.
Fortunately for me I picked up a three month old barely used example for £2k from Moorgate Acoustics this morning. I will be planting it into my Olive based system tomorrow.
Servicing for them is no longer available either only repairs so look after those cherished units guys!
Congrats on the latest addition to your system(s).
I’m more than sure ( fellow SL user) you will be delighted with your new-to-you SuperLine.
It’s intriguing you’re sharing the idea SuperLine is definitely EOL. Although, since Naim announced they could now no longer offer regular service, only repair to this item, I have kinda been waiting for this news. However, it’s puzzling, as it is still in the latest price list, issued by Naim, January 2026.
Did the lovely guys at Moorgate contact HQ and ascertain the current situation, is the SuperLine still in production or maybe just from remaining stock ?
Good to hear that you had heard that repairs were still on. That was my understanding too, although a dealer I know had recently been told they were no longer done (will be checking).
A great phono stage. Currently powering mine from 552 Aux 2 whilst the Supercap is being checked and repaired. It is pretty awesome even powered from Aux 2.
Mine will now have a preservation order put on it !
What’s not to like..
Uncle Darran - Class A - upstairs
Lovely vinyl - downstairs - in the basement
Ground floor - warm welcome - from the guys you mention.
Mine is powered via aux 2 and I cant complain. Im sure a SCdr and burndy would make some improvements, but im out of rack space. I am using a very nice 5 pin din from my 252 to the SL and that has made things even better.
The whole “ we cant service our own kit” from naim still grates, even now. I get the whole, “ we can fix a defect” bit, but after nearly 20 years and an original service interval of 12 to 15 years, are naim now saying my SL wouldn’t benefit from a service, or they have designed something that cant be serviced?
Don’t think the superline was ever classed as a 500 series product, but could be wrong, just because it had the brass plate in it doesn’t make it a 500 series does it as the bmr active crossover for the 600 ovator speakers also had the brass plate
It’s interesting that you’ve now got a superline in your naim olive system, does it replace the urika you had in the Linn as you think its a matter match with your system ? I was actually thinking of moving the other way and having a listen to the new Radikal 3 with the Urika, i’ve previusly preferred the superline , but the new Radikal may change things and lack of a servicing option is a little unsettling ( i’ve had my superline since 2008).
Ok as you want to know the specifics. I had a Urika with a Chord Music IC acting as the connection between the phono and the pre.
As I have been systematically moving back to Naim cables connecting Naim boxes I got the excellent David at SO York to fit the original ARO arm cable feeding Superline powered by the 52’s SC. In my 52/135 system I prefer the all Naim combo. It majors on cohesion and generally musicality with a great ‘ live’ feel.
The Urika is obviously also very good with that clean smooth sound so it really is a win win whichever you go for.
Thanks for confirming, i thought that was probably the reason for the change but just wanted to ask as i’m kinda torn between the superline and urika giving the current developments. I’m heavily invested in the superline with a chord burndy for the supercap and a chord music 4-5 din as well,so i’ll need to have a careful listen to the Radikal3/Urika before deciding what to do, stick or twist as it were.
That’s a heavy cable investment K. I see your dilemma especially as Chord will do the re termination to create Urika compatibility but for Music the cost is several hundreds of £. I hope that the path you choose works out for you.
Thanks Cohen, I’ll take my time and do a lot of listening. It’s maybe that I ‘ll just upgrade my Klimax Radikal 2 to the 3 and stick with the superline, i understand that even without the urika the Radikal 3 is a big improvement but would need a careful demo.
No and unlikely. Much of the issue is one of design of the PCB and it’s ground plane. It makes desoldering the many caps very difficult. Plus some early boards were brittle.
Naim told me they couldn’t supply a 160Ω Airplug when I asked for one. I ended up buying a couple of 160Ω Z foils from HiFi Collective and repurposing a 470Ω plug. I had some Naim recommended lead (and silver) free solder at least from repairing my Aro, which was contemporary to the plug.
