Single pair between amp output and speaker input.
If your speakers have multiple inputs use short jumpers of same cable at the speaker end.
Have you tried adding a DAC? The SN3/Neats may just be exposing the limitations of the Node 2i so anything you do down stream may be a waste of time.
Maybe the speakers need more play-in, even at 300 hours? My Totems took forever to loose their bright edge. Totem are Canadian, you should have got Totems ![]()
But, yes, other than just not getting on with that particular speaker, I’d look to the room, and the SN3 will enjoy a much better source.
Oh yes. I think there-in lays your answer. If you can afford to do so I’d have a fresh set of NAC A5 cables made up for you by your competent dealer, preferably at 5 x metres or more and of equal lengths. This is definitely where i look to begin with before going into other areas.
If after doing so the problem still persists then maybe look into a better source component such as a ND5 XS 2 or NDX 2, but I’m willing to bet that a pair of properly made cables will solve your immediate issues to begin with.
p.s. you say your speakers have had over 300 hours on them, that’s plenty of run-in time and so it’s now time to have them connected correctly.
Ribbon tweeters then to have a bright sound signature.
As someone suggested here, try moving your Petite back close(5cm) to the wall. This is to increase the bass reflex and to tone the brightness.
Also, try with another source to see if the brightness comes from the Bluenode.
Looking at what seems to be your preference for a warmer and sophisticated sound and style of music, what I would consider is:
I have not heard your speakers so going by description but if I were you, I would try to find a used pair of Spendor SA1 speakers, I believe you will like them. In my mind they are the definition of warmth and musicality, no shrieking on old recordings like some ls3/5a types and no need of 500w like the P3ESR.
I would look at something like the Audience (very smooth) or Tellurium Q Black (if you are looking for more definitely warm) speaker cables, to change the NACA5.
A better DAC should help with a more rounded, mature and insightful presentation, I would listen to a couple to choose one that suits best, makes a big difference. Btw I think the nd5xs2 might be too bright for you but again, might work if you change speakers?
The Supernait 3 is not a bright amplifier and has plenty of power. In fact in a small room the sound can feel a bit too big but that could work well with small speakers at normal listening levels. I wouldn’t change it now but think about it once you decide what speakers are for you.
Probably not. But I’m sure lots of folks will disagree
Use the F-connectors to treble and bass. Remove the brass strips between treble and bass on the back of each speaker.
Depends on the Ribbon. I have ProAc’s they certainly aren’t bright.
NEAT speakers are not renowned for being overly bright. One of their main strengths from many is possessing the sweetest of treble quality.
What is bright to one person is not to another. I would say, look for another speaker, you will never compensate the brightness with any other piece of equipement except optimising room acoustics and speaker toe-in.
I found that what i found bright 10 years ago ist just perfect now.
I read that NEAT recommend using one of the 2 bungs. Do you prefer without?
You mentioned using your dealers Petite Classic and found them warmer than your Petite 30. Why didn’t you buy the Classic if that’s what you liked? Maybe the 30’s are just naturally that bit brighter than the Classic’s.
I thought Neat finally went to singlewire connections on their speakers.
Its a pity market demand still force manufacturers to use biwire which indeed is a terrible thing all through.
Exactly — Neat and bright just doesn’t belong together…
I can’t help but wonder whether the source is ruining the music, and the SN3 really deserves better as others have already pointed out too. If an NDX2 or ND5XS2 aren‘t viable financilly, I would look into stand-alone DACs and use your Bluesound as transport. Especially if you are happy to buy used, this shouldn’t break the bank. Use the search facilities and read up on this much discussed topic — lots of good options.
For clarity, your speakers have two sets of terminals. If you are just using one speaker cable for each speaker, as I guess you are, you must have the metal links in place. Is this how you are set up?
Has the dealer you used had a listen to your system or could you not take you speakers back to him and try them in his system just for comparison.
It’s very easy to start throwing money at a system when it maybe a simple fix, if you have had good results with the dealers loan pair you tried earlier I would see what they recommend, best of luck, hope you sort it out.
Agree Stephen
I’ve had quite a number of Neat speakers over the years ( currently petite 30’s in one system and the sensational ultimatum XLS’s in main system)
Haven’t experienced brightness at all once run in - takes a bit of time
Sensational speakers for me ![]()
How long was your run-in time btw? I want to give the 30’s more time cause I really like them.
But I will play with positioning some more then.
And I really want to give these speakers a fair chance cause they are special.
I agree with I’m leaning in on a brand new set of NAC A5’s.
Also,I tried a Chord Qutest and a ND5 XS2 and the sound was still bright, but that’s when I had the Dynaudio Special 40’s.
I tried out some Spendor Classic 4/5 and Harbeth P3ESR at home and much preferred the Neats.
