Thanks. Bought it from a local eBay seller 10 years ago, when it was described as non-working.
It was easily restored to a functional status, though somewhat noisy, but after a motor rebuild and a proper fitting belt, it now is totally silent. It pretty much rivals the SME 10 now in sound quality.
Contrary to what others have said about the 124, I find that very little maintenance is required. It has worked flawlessly for the entire time I’ve had it.
It still looks fabulous, rich.

did you compare focal vs dynaudio with naim?
My 2019 update: good music notation software and a good library of orchestral sounds. To work at best, I have added two delightful tiny masterpieces: a nuforce DDA-100 and a pair of Neat Iotas:
I have no words for how the combo exceeded my expectations. The nuforce is a fully digital amp with no DAC inside, treating the signal in the digital domain up to the speaker sockets, where it analogizes it. The Iotas - well, they are sincerely the first Neats I really like and I find their cleanness, transparency and musicality a joy to ears and heart.

Very nice Max - those Iotas are tiny !. Wonder what they’d sound like on the end of a Nait 1
I ave no idea. Bu the nuforce is exactly what I technically needed and has a natural, clean, no-frills voice that suits monitoring one’s work perfectly. I also play Apple Lossless music I have in my Mac, with excellent results. Let’s accept serenely that 35 years have passed since the Nait1.
Thanks and best,
Max
I’m thinking of myself here Max, not suggesting you purchase a Nait 1…
Ah…

May I ask which software? Personally I always return to paper …
I use paper a lot, for sketches, for classroom work. On the train, for the opposite of reading. But I have Finale v25.5 on an iMac 21.5, and have just discovered a more than decent sound library, NotePerformer, at the very reasonable price of €97 + VAT. The result is more than adequate to have (and give the students) a realistic idea of how any group of instruments sound.
Thanks Max. I’ll check that out. I’ve written a lot when I followed classes ‘practical harmony’ given by a teacher who was convinced that harmony meant nothing until you do it. Need to digitize that and maybe publish a bit.
Your former teacher’s remark made me smile; it’s true, collective lessons of harmony do not produce much more than young people forgetting the basics the next day after they have had their exam…
After so many years, these two last years I still have before retirement I have decided to make the students write more and myself to explain and speak the necessary minimum.
Now I give back the thread.

@mr Fog: what a nice rack… custom made?
Haim,
Great picture. I had a cd 3.5 / Nait 3 for a long while and it sent me straight to music nirvana each time I had it play something. Enjoy!
Very nice Max - those Iotas are tiny !. Wonder what they’d sound like on the end of a Nait 1
They sound very nice on the end of an Obelisk 3, which is not so dissimilar from a Nait…
It‘s from the german furniture market moebelum.

Rega P6, Chord Qutest, 32.5/hicap/250. The CDX/XPS is temporarily out of commission because I damaged the interconnect. Using the AV Options Ultra HBL power strip and their Twisted 56 speaker cable. The hicap and 250 have been fully rebuilt by AV Options. The 32.5 hasn’t been restored yet but it’s on the docket.
