System Pics 2019

Great taste in guitar amps too, by the way. I used to own a Laney VC30 with additional cab, it was so simple yet so beautiful. And LOUD!

it’s just me Mark, but i preferred your room without the sofas. Or just one instead of the chair. However very nice system and room!

The sofa end…with listening chair moved out into sweet spot, normally resides on the right.

As for the demo - The biggest difference I’ve found is jumping to 282/250 - wider & lower sound stage, more detail, just wow…another level altogether from 202/200 so think they are staying! lol

Sticking with 282/250 the auld 805’s sounded pretty freekin awesome! Robbie (friendly local dealer) said they were probably the best sounding 805s he’d heard…
Swapping back / forth between the speakers it’s not just the difference in bass, as I was always surprised how much bass & control the wee 805s had in the first place! But there IS more control and well, just, more…they do go lower obviously due to the larger cabinet…but there is more layers of detail in the bass.
Top end sounds pretty sweet too…
Have listened to everything from The Orb, The Doors, Alison Krauss, Dark Knight & Interstellar soundtracks, now on War of the Worlds…loving all of it, again, and lots more to go…I have a week before they get picked up.

Ooooh yes, my 2001 model year NAC82 has just arrived by UPS and certainly looks mint!

I need to play a couple of tracks on the NAC102 before I switch over but I’m feeling like a kid at Christmas! I can scarcely believe I have got to this level and the 102 looks a bit spartan by comparison!

Thanks for the comments on the room, you’re all very kind. Interesting how many of us on here have guitars. I’m not good enough frankly to justify the guitar gear I have but I’m loving improving and learning!

Loving the SL2s

Jonathon, I’m in the reverse of your position. My 82, which dates from around that time and which I have owned from new, is away for a service. Missing my music terribly :sad_but_relieved_face:

Enjoy your new toy

Thanks - but yours is going to sound better than ever when it comes back!! Actually when I first played the NAC82 I was disappointed, it was very clinical, a little thin and rather splashy compared to my recently serviced 102. Needless to say I shouldn’t have worried, it’s been on for around 3 hours now and the sound has changed dramatically as it has come up to temperature. The sound is more organic than the 102, richer, better textured and there’s a better feeling of acoustic space. I’m really happy now, although cursing the fact I have to go back to work tomorrow!! It will be interesting how much it continues to change over the next few days.

Aside from that it looks sexy as hell!! I always loved the way the rotaries were illuminated alongside the ‘volume’ and ‘balance’ indications. I’m listening to Shawn Mullins ‘9th Ward pickin parlour’ and it’s utterly sublime!

I love this amp so much I feel just like I used to when I used to go into hifi shops and just dream of owning one.

Hope yours comes back soon. I think I may do the same after I’ve had fun with it for a while but as you say it will be very hard to part with. Who is doing the service?

I don’t know the 102 but having lived with the 82 for (blimey) approaching two decades now I really hope you share my passion for it. I’ve heard the 282, at some length tbh but still prefer the 82 and didn’t go for it. Mine’s gone for it’s 2nd ever service to Class A. I do hope it returns without a change in sound :crossed_fingers:

That’s quite a stack Charlie - what’s the lone non naim component in the right hand rack?

Mine took an hour of warm up to stop me thinking “have I made a mistake?”. A few weeks later it got serviced by Class A.

A new toy has entered my system.

It’s quite fun to drive even though I’m a real newbie in this field…

That’s a nice plinth on your LP12. Is it a fluted oak?

Thanks Clive, yes, that’s it.

Assuming this room isn’t a shed with posh flooring, I’m intrigued by the use of chipboard as wall material.
If mainly as an acoustic solution ? I think it’s an aesthetic success as well. Nice.
