Yes the Audiovector owner Ole Klifoth was the Danish Naim distributer. The current distribution owner was working at Audiovector back then.
I heard they used Naim amps to build those speakers as well.
Audiovecter can be upgraded. Even to work with a Naim Snaxo
I have a pair of SR3 Signature and they fit my 200/202 combo very well.

Now here’s a bit of a surprise, after spending a few hours today playing some selected tracks going from the Neats to my old Royds I’m not convinced. I thought there’d be a noticeable difference but right now I’m struggling to choice which I like the best. It also goes to show just how well the old Royds stack up.

I’m now thinking that I might get better value from upgrading my speaker cables to SL and replace my no name rack with a Fraim. I’ve always been a bit suspicious of the whole cables/ rack thing but there’s many here who swear by them.

I’ll continue with some back to back listening, it might also be that the Neats are only a few hours old and need time to loosen up.

that budget would get you a nice holiday…

Just had one, but like most people would drop everything and run off again.

The Neats are taller speakers so your listening height will make a difference i guess…

True, I’ll look into that. Thanks. :+1:

The speakers do take a good few hours to run in and will initially sound constrained. I’d suggest to put the Royds in another room and just use the Neats for a couple of weeks. Then put the Royds back and see if your think ‘ooh, that’s better’ or not. Swapping to and fro will only get you confused. Forget about bass, treble, imaging and the like. Which speaker gets to closer to the music and the musicians?

I was unaware of Road Priors so googled them. Among other things I found they were just short of £1000 in 1995.

Hey Pete, agree with HH’s opinion on auditioning and methodology for testing differences in speakers, but, and this is my opinion, SL speaker and interconnect cables do make/are a worthwhile upgrade, if possible try a demo, you’ll probably be surprised, not cheap but in this game what is!!!

+1 re cables, but not for spending large amounts on Fraim without a proper home demo. Actually, wherever possible extended home demos should be sought as so many so called ‘improvements’ are incredibly subjective.

I bought mine in 95, I paid more the 3ks (Aussie dollars). This demo has proved that they were and still are a good set of speakers.

Royds are very highly regarded, from the little A7 to the Minstrels, Abbots and the rest. I’m not convinced that speakers have progressed that far in 25 years if what you are after is sheer musical enjoyment. So many these days seem to be all about bass, treble and little else. I really like my Neat Iotas but even they take a good while to run in and loosen up, so I’m sure the 7s have a lot more to offer.

I agree with your earlier remark on Momentum SX7i run-in. Had a look at the speaker on the Neat site and they talk about 200 hours. Also 20-30cm behind them with a little toe-in. Should be good with Isobaric do-dahs!

And how does sound quality of the Dragon compare with that of your RT-909 running at 71/2"?

In order to answer I have to make records on Botchev from the same source and compare. But I will when the time allows. I have the Dragon since last a Saturday.

Pete, instead of Superlumina, why not a second hand 555ps ? however may be more difficult to find in Australia. But ebay can be your friend.

Getting second hand stuff in Aus is difficult at best.

Thanks IvoB. As a matter of interest, what type of reel-to reel tape do you use on your RT-909, and have you had the deck’s heads calibrated for that make of tape?

I am interested in your comparison of the two decks because I have an RT-909 but I really wanted to get a Nakamichi Dragon (even though I didn’t like the cassette format) for many years when it first came out, but just couldn’t afford one at the time. If the Dragon is as good as the RT-909 then it must be really good.
