In order to answer I have to make records on both from the same source and then to compare. But I will when the time allows. I have the Dragon since last Saturday.

I’m using only brand new tapes Recording the masters LPR 35. The R2R was fully renovated - recapped, all rubbers replaced, new motor (a little bit noisier than I wish), heads serviced and adjusted exactly for LPR 35.
For the DRAGON I have NOS cassette tapes I, II and IV (Sony and TDK). I’m curious to compare as well. When I find enough time I will. It could be that with metal cassette tapes the DRAGON may appear a strong contender to the Pioneer RT909.
So far I made only one tape (TDK CDing2 74) with great result.
It’s amazing to see Mark setting up your deck. I had to make to with Richard setting mine up
Look out for an email shortly Graham…

The IFI SMPS works amazingly well with the dac, absolutely stunning like a box upgrade. I fitted it last night and could not believe the difference in SQ it was on another level, i was really suprised by how good it was.
Now i know why hans from ytube uses this in one of his reference systems.
I did a new post about it!
Thanks IvoB,
I also have my fully renovated RT-909 calibrated for brand new LPR 35 tapes - a good choice.
The ‘Budget Bob’ system is nearly complete I just won the rack below in an eBay auction for £22. I haven’t seen it up close yet but am hoping it will clean up nicely.
It’s made by Habitat so not sure how much it will improve the system but it’s going to be much better than just stacking it on top of each other.
My one slight concern is the wheels very handy for cable dressing but maybe not so great for isloation duties so I may change them for spikes of some sort.
Played a couple of records last night and it sounded really good even stacked on top of the Nad amp as luckily the Isonoe feet raise the deck up enough.
All of the big, beefy sound I remember from this combo the Dynaudio speakers though are taking it a step further and are really responding to the extra power.
No doubt things will improve when I get everything isolated on the budget rack I’m picking up at the weekend.
My current system (under testing): 4x135 + NAC52 + SC + NAXO + HC + SBL + NACA5 + Ndac.
There is some unused items which are there to do some direct comparison: NAP160, NAC32, NAC32.5BU, another NAXO (not serviced). I need to finalize it when i will know wich box will be used in the final system.
It would be nice to see a pic of the system on the budget rack when you have it all together.
Good luck.
Some tracks with Nait and Tannoy Venus while waiting for my Sara active.
Really surprising and what a pleasure to have something so different than what I’m used to!
looks like a medical trolley from the local a&e
Must be effective and well built then. If it works and appeals and saves the environment through reuse so much the better!
Playing Chet Baker Live at Nic’s at the moment and it’s sounding pretty good.
I’d also like to see it once done, although I agree with your assessment that something other than rollers needs to be on the bottom…convenience be damned! It actually looks pretty sturdy, and the white might make a nice contrast with black boxes. (I don’t recall your gear; apologies.)
Yes it looks a bit like a Lyons Tea House Cake trolley with the wheels! But I agree once the black boxes are installed it will look as it should. I’ll definetly look into replacing them asap with some spikes of some sort.
My system is Google Chromecast into a Musical Fidelity V Dac/ V PSU, a Technics SL1200 Mk 2 with an Audio Origami Rega RB300 into a Musical Fidelity V LPS Phono Stage also powered by the V PSU a Nad c372 amp and Dynaudio Contour s3.4 connected by Naim Nac A5.
I also have a matching Nad AM/FM Tuner up in the loft that I may get down at some point.
Each to their own Toto and as far as l’m concerned you’re entitled to your opinion.
As my dearly departed mother used to say, “It’s not what you say, but the way you say it.”
i didn’t knew that Naim was doing medical components for hospitals
hahaha
Without offense Bob, could not resist.
“Medical grade” is always a good quality!
