System Pics 2020

I thought the sun coming through the window highlighting the system and the flowers made for a nice shot and right on cue the cat appears so overall a bit more luck than judgement.

Are you using the armchairs as bass traps ?
Nice kudos, 808 I guess?

They are 606’s frenchrooster upgraded my C20s that I had for 10 years.

Nocker , any chance u could rearrange room so that chairs did not sit between your 606’s and perhaps then move the right speaker a bit to the left? I would think that would make things better, though cannot see rest of your room.
Love Kudos speakers

I can try, what difference do you think it would make? I would have to loose a chair though! They are 116” apart which is the distance I sit away from them, I can’t bring listening seat any closer.

I’ve found the optimum setup to be you sitting 1.8 times the distance between the speakers away from them. They do look awfully far apart, but every room is different and preferences vary.

My room 30ft x20ft with speakers on short wall. They are 7.5 ft apart (90 inches).
My listening chair approx 9 ft from speakers.

Some pics. I have kudos titans T88s
It just sounds better with space between speakers. Also kudos recommends keeping speakers away from side walls.
I think mine sound better sitting 4ft from back wall. Bass tight and no smearing of sound.
My large room let’s me move them out pretty far. If u could pull them out into the room a bit more that might improve things.
My spikes sit in Herbies Gliders so easy to move the Titans easily on wood floor without scratching the floor.
Try to experiment- god knows with COVID most of us have a lot of time on our hands.
Have fun

Really, almost twice the distance? I’ve found that in my room it sounds best a wee bit longer away from the speakers than the distance between them. Never tried 1.8x but that would occupy my entire living room.

Since I’m on system pics someone may notice that I’ve no longer got all Olive.
That box on left above the 135 is a new addition- XPS DR- which is now serving my cds 2- the cds now uses Chord Sarum T interconnect. These 2 changes have now taken my cds2 to a much higher level.
Rest is 01/01 power supply/52/supercap/135s.
Listening to Mark Knopfler on 01 as I type this.
Great tuner

I agree with distance to walls, keeping mine well away makes the system sound optimal, in my room. I used Cardas thinking when setting them up. After a lot of moving around it was what sounded best to me.

I agree, 1.8 ratio seems a bit much
1 to 1.3 to one is what I find works for me

Nice pics and system… “Olive” are forever…
Your Kudos look very impressive!

What also comes into play are room nodes which affects how it sounds even more than the ratio I would guess

I have found that furniture between the speakers does disturb the sound stage a bit. So does a hi fi rack. I really really prefer nothing between the speakers, and rack off to one side.

Hi Nocker, I’d not be so fussed about having furniture between speakers or the ratio of distances as much as I would worry about that right speaker being hard up against the right wall. This might give an odd sound balance and compromise imaging. Maybe try the right speaker sited in front of the middle of the right window so that distance from the side wall is roughly symmetrical with the left speaker. There are no hard and fast rules of course, but I’d guess that would give better results?

Hi Lucifer, how are your impressions now on your new set up with acoustic panels?
For me the sound was too much in my face and less airy. But my speakers are 40 cm from the wall. You have a big room vs me.

Speaker placement would depend a lot on the size of the room since the room will determine how much you can place the speakers apart or how far you can sit away from the speakers, apart from listening preferences. My setup is exactly 1:1.8, distance between speakers 1.95m, distance between front face of speakers and ears 3.5m.

In my room I couldn’t place the speakers more than 1.95m apart as the speakers would be very close to the side walls with less than 0.5m clear distance between the wall and speaker. I have tried listening from 2.0m up to 4.0m away from speakers in my room, and 3.5m sounds best to my ears. No clear or hard rules on optimum ratio of speaker placement as the room and listening preferences are predominant factors. I usually do not favour near-field listening ie. sitting very close to the speakers, hence that may have contributed to my preference of sitting at a considerable distance away from the speakers.

FWIW if the speakers are placed considerably far away from each other say 2.4m apart, based on a 1:1.3 ratio the optimal listening distance would be 3.2m away from speakers which sounds about right. Personally I’ve tried various placement configurations in many different rooms throughout the years and have not settled with one that requires me to listen at less than 2.0m away from the speakers. Perhaps it is fortunate that the rooms are not too small so that I could still listen at a considerable distance away from the speakers.
