System Pics 2020

Latest update has been the switch to Sonus Faber Oly 1s, as I didn’t get on with the PMCs so they went back. So far loving the SFs, but still breaking in - first time I’ve felt something can retire the Spendors I have.
Future plans are to mount the Tv on the wall to bring the Uniti Star out of the cupboard and perhaps purchase a turntable to join it on top.

They were twenty5.23’s weren’t they? Do you mind me asking what was it that you didn’t like about them?

A couple of things, they seemed a little more harsh than I’m used to and the vocals seemed a bit recessed, with bass too prominent. Maybe it was just my room or my preference (Coming from SA1s, perhaps they were just a step too far). I’m sure others would comment that the ‘harshness’ was crispness, and that the SFs are dull in comparison… I do think that bookshelf speakers work better in my room though

I’m similar and having had floorstanders for years have realised I prefer standmounts. For that reason I have the twenty5.21’s now. ATB

As it’s easy to upload pictures now, my system sharing duties with AV set up.
An interesting mix of all 3 generations of naim boxes.

Thanks Nigel. The soft reflected light on the speaker caught my eye but it needed space, as you say.

Best, C.

Great photo.:+1:

What a beautiful system and a really wonderful organization of the components!

Family AV rig on the right, with a Uniti 1 bottom right.

Daddy’s new mad head-fi set up on the left. UQ2 on temporary streaming duties. Vinyl is Planar 8 with Apheta 3 into Trichord Dino (will get Mk 3 and PSU in due course). Violectric V281 as headphone amp, playing into Meze Empyreans. All sitting on Quadraspire SVT with the new black bamboo shelves. Been in the house for a couple of hours now and I am grinning from ear to ear listening to James - Gold Mother on 180g vinyl.

Edit - I’ll try and get a better lit photo in the sun tomorrow.

A much underrated amp I had 202/HC/200 for about 18 months and stupidly spent a whole year of that lusting after a 282 it wasn’t until I actually got one I realised what a great amp the 202 had been.
The 282 cost over three times what I paid for my 202 and I didn’t find it a night and day difference and wasn’t left slack jawed either an improvement yes but not as much as I’d expected.

Max has a good, respectable system but it’s silly to compare it to the 282. I think it’s one of the best pre amps Naim has ever built. Pair it with a 250 and a SC and it’s the only system you’ll ever need. Source first, of course! :sunglasses:

Hi Bob, the story of extra money for diminishing returns…

I switched from a 200/202 Hi Cap , StageLine and NAPSC to a Rega Aethos (and they did need serious services)

What this has made me do is realise how good my Naim sources are (a CDX2, NAT03 and UnitiQute 2 which I use as a DAC)

`Like your posts on PreAmps by the way - genuine left field thinking

Yes, 202/200 is underrated, and that’s the reason I have kept them for a long time even after I bought the 282 and 250DR. In the end I could only keep 1 so the 202/200 need to go.

Interesting but I have seen systems here , from high profile members , 282/500DR, which may disagree with your premises.

Apologies but what was the disagreement about?

Just a question of miscommunication and past tense application. All good. Most of all, enjoy the music!

I’m not saying that the 282 is a bad preamp in fact I had one for a few years and it’s a very good preamp just IMO not the ‘night and day’ difference over a 202.
My main point was this, that many Naim Audio users are in such a rush to get up that ladder that they barely pause to appreciate what they have and one of the main ‘rungs’ that people are especially keen to get over is the one that leads from 202 to 282.
I myself was guilty of this and part of my eagerness was my own impatience and another driven by what I’d read on this forum the stories of people looking on in ‘slack jawed’ amazement and awe struck wonder after connecting up a 282 for the first time. when in truth the differences where quite a bit more subtle than that.
So my advice would be to really appreciate and live with the units you have for a good while before going up that ladder.

Well said. It’s refreshing to actually hear some one say that. :+1:

Finally got my summer house system installed! Everything just back from service. Naims service really stellar! They even had reterminated the burndy! Issue is that the walls are not right for Wulkan…and floors are not so stable (old house). The system is settling in and the CDS is now consistently finding the toc and tracks! Life is good and the sun is shining!
