System Pics 2020

I’m not disputing that the Nac 282 is a great pre I’d not be surprised that if pre streaming it was one of Naim’s best sellers. The fact that us two especially have such different experiences only goes to prove the importance of room acoustics because at times we’ve had such similar set ups both having owned the same amps and speakers.
I live in a typical late 19th century/early 20th century two up, two down town house which has some good points acoustically solid walls are a real bonus but the small rooms and suspended floors can play havoc with the lower frequencies.

Looks fantastic! Do your lovely set of stringed instruments resonate when the volumes up high?

Positively impressed on what a dedicated spur brings. Quite a bit more of everything !!

Today I could all test it. The dedicated electricity is made up from AHP Klangmodule, Supra LoRad 2,5mm2 cable and a Furutech e-TP60E.

Thanks. Usually, volume is not more than 9 o’clock. Probably will crank up the volume when I have the house to myself…

I have an Ortofon Quasar that is 30 yrs old, and it still sounds good.

@bnc1863 I had the same Focals for quite a while … stunning choice; very good speakers

Ivan, yes, love the Kanta. l remembered u upgraded to 300DR from 250DR - correct me if I’m wrong. Would you say that the uplift in SQ is more pronounced from 250 to 300 or a dedicated spur? Thanks.

@bnc1863 The Kanta’s will definitely benefit from a 300Dr. I noticed that upgrade immediately. Comparing the 300Dr upgrade to a Spur doesn’t make so much sense I believe. It is a total other upgarde and the spur is more on subtleties

Yet, in you situation isn’t it a way better investment to go for a 555Dr on the NDX2. For me that change was bigger then all others. Just my two cents

Wow - thats what I have been dreaming of. Combining naim with home cinema - you did it in a big scale.

Yes I’m surprised at how good the sound still is and of the build quality. The guy who gifted it to me has the original bill for it £190 in 1991 so I suppose about the same level as the Quintet.

I bought my first DV17D2 around 1990 for £300, the quintet would probably be around £500 in today’s money if both companies had increased prices by the same percentage.

Thanks Iver. Great advise on the source first direction.

My house is a two-story, four bedroom brick built in 1928. The walls of my listening room are plaster on brick along two sides and plaster on lathe along the other two. No drywall. The floors are suspended wood. I have no professional room treatments but the sound is wonderful nevertheless.

Again this only goes to prove my initial point and that is no two rooms will sound the same.
Same construction, same size but add an alcove here an alcove there a few extra squared meters and that can vastly change the way an amp or speaker will sound.
I know this to be true because over a five or six year period I tried
Nacs 32.5, 42.5, 72, 102, 82, 122x, 102 and 282 with Flatcaps, Napsc, Hicap’s and Supercaps going into
Bolt down, CB , Olive 250, 250.2 and 250DR
90, 140, 150, 180 and 300 and a Uniti and a couple Of UQ2’s.
I fully committed to Naim it just didn’t work for me in my room.
I now have a passive pre into Quad Elite QSP and it sounds wonderful even full blast.

I’ve just committed to buy a Linx Nebula amplifier and will pitch it against the Nait 5.
The winner will get to spend their days as a part of my 2nd system driving my Dynaudio Audience 52’s.
