System Pics 2020

Yes I have had it that far round before and it’s loud but not that loud.

Nice. I had the Quasar for a short while back in the 90s and it was very good indeed, but make sure fascia push button switches all function correctly - mine developed a mind of their own.

My money is on the Linx, but that could be just rose tinted memory!

You can adjust the sensitivity of each input separately on a Nait 5 and a NAC 112, there was a price for this convenience.

Yes I’ve factored in the cost of a service for the Linx, Gordon Taylor who originally worked at Linx an Canvey Island I think still services all Linx units under the name The Amp Doctor.

Yes I have read that the switches can be a problem a few people blame the move from New Zealand to Essex and the eventual buy out by Wharfedale for some drop in quality control issues though the sound never suffered.

I haven’t read the manual yet and wasn’t aware of that Yeti that’s a great piece of information thank you although I probably wouldn’t alter it, it’s nice to have a Naim amp that can go through the dial without becoming too loud by the time you get to 10, 11 o’clock.

Moved house. Refurb and decorating may take years but the important bits are in place!

Your PMC Fact 12 seem to work very close to the wall — may I ask for the distance to the back wall?

Cheers!! :slightly_smiling_face:

They are about 20cm from the wall. Still playing with speaker location but hoping I can keep them quite tight to the wall as the ports are front firing. They certainly work well like this, but I will bring them out over the coming days and see if it makes a difference or not.

Thanks @Pipdan — 20cm is very room-friendly. :grinning:

I have humble 23.25, and these are out about 18cm. I am intrigued by Fact 8, which might work well in the same location. My room wouldn’t cope with Fact 12, I think — let alone my wallet…

That’s what I’m hoping, don’t want to dominate the room more than it does already! I bought the 12’s used, mad but not stupid…

Blimey, are you sure it’s not you? Just kidding… but, seriously!:sunglasses:

I have Fact 8s placed 14 cm from the rear wall. This is dictated by room size and shape, but they work well nonetheless.

A picture of the innards of the Nebula it’s MM, MC onboard phono stage is also meant to be very good and can be upgraded by Gordon Taylor too.
I’ve always been very curious to hear some Linx kit and have always really liked the styling too.

Very nice system indeed!
Allow me two questions:

  1. Why did you opt not to go Fraim at 500 Série level?
  2. Are these IsoAcoustics Gaia II under the Facts 12s? How effective are they with absorbing low frequency resonances?

Hi, i may change to a Fraim but at the time when i bought it i wanted a walnut finish and I also had some non Naim kit in it. The rack is well finished and the whole thing was only £1200 so much cheaper too.

The Gaia are the smaller III’s and absorb resonances well. The floor they are on is a light suspended wooded one and booms a lot, the Gaia removed much of this.

Not to single out this setup but I see lots of Turntables near or right next to speakers? Doesn’t that cause a fair amount of feedback?

Lovely speakers, had them for 1 year. So much better than Gold 300.

Thanks Pipdan. Good to read that the Gaia work well in your system. I have a double set coming for a trial under my ProAc D28s.

To program the volume control for each input first set the volume control to a comfortable listening
level with the loudest source (probably CD). Enter program mode by pressing and holding the prog key
until the amplifier volume control indicator flashes. Select the input to be adjusted using the handset and use the vol up and down keys to set the volume to a comfortable listening level.
The amplifier volume control will not rotate during this operation. Select a further input to adjust. To exit program mode press and hold the prog key until the volume control indicator stops flashing, or operate any control on the amplifier.

My Fact 12 are about 20 cm from the real wall as well and the sound quality is stunning . I’ve tried other positions, but I wasn’t satisfied. Like all consumer Pmc they are room and wife friendly.:sunglasses:
