The rack is custom designed. I do not know if it’s the best acoustically. But the blending with the room was the important thing here. And the sound suits me.
My only regret is not to have it made the rack a bit deeper for more air around the cables. I don’t dare to show the rats nest in fear of the cable dressing brigade.
I should also have designed the upper level a bit higher to give the MD-107 more space to breathe. The space was ok with the MD-100 though.
I can understand. But I think they reflect wisdom and a deep connection to what we are as humans. They should be respected as the people who carved them.
I have so many that I need to start to shift. I had show organised for late last year and I have been able to reschedule due you know what. Which means I’ve stock everywhere. I generally put those directly in front as I finish so I can have a look (and listen). Hopefully my website will be updated in the next few weeks.
Yes it’s a Magnum Dynalab MD-107T. It replaced yesterday my trusty MD-100. Had a great live concert yesterday. FM radio is my source nearly half of the time.
I’ll post the photo on the non Naim radio tuner thread if I can find it.
You got the spirit. Actually, it’s much more than just a listening room. It is the living room. But listening to inspiring music with dimmed lights, your beloved one and good glass of wine is very, very close to the best life can get you.
Pietro,
I have been almost an ‘expert’ (there have been real experts here)… Since the main thing in the shift from SN1 to 2 was a) removal of the onboard DAC and, b), the insertion of the DR to power the pre-amp section, buying a SN3 you’d already have a DR-powered preamp; only, it would be powered internally by a single 24V rail derived from the secondary of the only transformer.
If you added a DR-HiCap you would have the following benefits:
the preamp section of the SN3 would be powered with 2x24V rails, one for each channel;
you’d have a supersized transformer and capacitors for the preamp, and
the SN’s internal transformer would be relieved from the task of powering the preamp too.
Consider that the needs of a preamp (an old Chrome Bumper typically asked for 0.35A or so) are modest, and that a HiCap is many times more powerful than the needs of any preamp; I don’t want to boycott the sales of HiCaps, dio ne scampi, but you could serenely try a plain SN3 to discover that you have all you need. Devore speakers are very sensitive, so never a problem with sound pressure levels too.
Its a solid sounds rack, which i have messed with, as cut it so that its 2 separate racks now, plus i made myself a 500 high shelf to match, as i had an olive system when i first got the rack
