System Pics 2020

Hi @Clive, there is a CDS3 and XPS2 thread. Basically I did the 555 vx XPS2 comparison and preferred the 555PS overall.

The XPS2 will be serviced and I will live with it for a while.

Swapping burndies every now and then no doubt to hear the CDS3 with the 555PS.

Your rooms giving a lot of young positive energy. Where’s the rotary mixer and other TT ?

I notice in this thread that you dont see many turntables sat on top of the Fraim when in many instances it would be the most logical placement, there is ample room (not exceeding the recommended max 6 levels) and cosmetically it would be the best looking. Any reason for that? I say that as my P10 sat atop my Fraim is giving me the best SQ I have ever heard from my system…

I would have thought a dedicated wall shelf, securely fixed would be the logical choice if possible

…why would it be different from the same arguments regarding electronics placement where the Fraim is the best choice?

That does not sound like Magicos at all. If anything, Magicos get criticized for not being ‘boomy’ enough and too controlled !!

LP12 is the only component with moving parts. Slight knock on the Fraim and hell breaks loose. Besides, it’s a Victorian house with wooden floors. I’m sure you can work out the rest.

I pulled the stands,I used before ss6 ,out of the tv surround ,where they have gone to see out their days, just to check. The ss6 with the kudos cable certainly are a treat airy, spacious,:fairy:
,any bass is textured not thumped. They make the previous stands sound leaden,a bit heavy footed. But then the ss6 with cable are about five times more expensive. I am sure they would be a fine match for acoustic style streaming.Bbc radio sounds fabulous.
Vintage SS6 it says on the box 60cms raw finish.

The reason I suggested you try it on the CDS3 is because I have a suspicion, based on my trial in the shop, that the CD player actually sounds better than the NDS (at least when used with just one 555PS). My trial was with a CDS2 and one would assume that the CDS3 is even better.

Thanks - so you are using SS6 which are 24" height. Just what I was thinking.

Uniti Star with…didn’t decide yet
Should be a no brainer but i really got fond of the Kef’s

Listening room is kinda unorthodox - but works really well.

On looks the Harbeths for me but only your ears will know.

Nice setup

I have my turntable sat on the top shelf of fraim, it works ok and tops off the four layers nicely. I am however surprised that the fraim offers less protection from ‘tapping’ than when it was sat on a standard Nathan unit. My floors are concrete.

…maybe the make of turntable makes a difference, with Rega not much by way of moving parts, with a Linn Sondek maybe a different story?

As a Harbeth user, I think they are a speaker that benefits from system synergy and oodles of current.

I don’t think your comments about the KEFs are as left field as you might think

The CDS3 with 555PS does sound amazing and better than the XPS2.

As for better than the NDS I am not sure as yet. I haven’t spent enough time with it as yet doing comparisons.

I am enjoying them both. Hopefully I will have a 555 PS for both some time in the future. For now will get the XPS2 serviced only (no DR), which will help with resale. Just waiting for a price from Darran at Class A.

Dan, I replaced my olive xps with an xps dr on a cds2 and it was a very significant improvement. That said, the olive xps was, prob coming due for service. May want to dr your xps… that may be all u need to improve the cds3.
I’ve since packed away the cds2 and now I’m using my xpsdr with my brand new ndx2. Have not tried the ndx2 without the Xpsdr.

I’m thinking 555PS. Then I can see how the NDS sounds with 2 555PSs. At some point when prices drop will probably end up with ND555. So for me the 555PS addition in the future covers all bases.

Have you tried the 555PS on your NDX2? I have heard it on demo and it sounds formidable.

Servicing the XPS2 first will give me a buffer and help selling it on.

I am in no rush and if I want a XPS2 DR better to buy one used and sell on the XPS2 as costs to DR are more than what I can get a used XPSDR.

I am happy just getting a service and living with it all.

You really have moved over to the dark side, with all your olive boxes.

Are you enjoying the new NDX2 with XPSDR?

Very much. Streaming I am now listening to music rather than play the same old CDs. Discovering so much new music.
Even the internet radio is great. My 01 has been feeling forgotten.
