They like and respond to masses of current - I have a theory that if fed with something like a well powered Denon then they will sing well for not huge amounts of money .
So, with not too much to do today, I decided to partially strip down my turntable so I could polish out some annoying surface scratches that have accumulated on the plinth and lid over the years.
After several applications of polish and lots of buffing, scratches removed and back to its former glory:
Then with platter back on and returned to standā¦
Finishedā¦
Now to sit down and listen!
My naim chrome bumper are now in another room doing there stuff. I will never sell them. I have a few other hifi parts so I tend to swap out every now and then. I just thought that the Atom worked better with these amps. I may change my mind in a few weeks. Great to have the choice and what else is there to do in these times of lockdown every few weeks. Keeps me sane.
Turntable detailing
Nice work, it looks great !
Stunning!!
Well done!
What polish did you use?
I have a contact who distributes Autoglym car products and some time ago he recommended I use Autoglym Super Resin Polish for the black gloss plastic they commonly use inside vehicles now. It worked a treat for that and the plinth on the RP6 has a similar gloss finish, so I used the Super Resin on that too. Itās has only a very mild cutting agent in it, so you really do have to buff quite a bit to get any surface scratches out, but as itās quite a gentle polish, I knew it certainly wouldnāt do it any damage and it produces a beautiful deep shine too!
Superb! A lovely finish achieved, that really is a deep lustrous shine on your black RP6 - beautifully done!
Funnily enough, Iād noticed the belt was slipping on my RP6 before Christmas, so spent yesterday doing a little maintenance, namely using AG Fast Glass cleaner on the white belt, sub platter (where it makes contact with the belt), and the pulley itself. Last job was to clean the bearing spindle shaft and drop in fresh oil. All running much more smoothly now.
Also noticed a lot of light scratches on the lid, and after seeing your brilliant work now feel inspired to have a go at those marks tomorrow, using some old Menzerna and Meguairs 105 & 205 car polish I still have, so a combination of those should work well on my DA. Quite looking forward to it now!
Wow, well done that looks stunning.
Hi Yetizone,
Sounds great, would love to see the finished productā¦donāt forget to post a picture or two!
Normal Maguiars finishing/light polish should be absolutely fine, just be careful with anything designed to cut into the paint (like T-cut or more abrasive scratch removers) as this could do more harm than good. I would hate to have instigated any damage to someoneās elseās pride and joy with my suggestion of using a car polish as some products can be quite abrasive!
Good luck
Donāt get any of that polish near your drive belt or drive pulley, if it has silicon in it.
Thank you - that could come in handy for guitar finishes and such - if it is available here in the USAā¦which I just checked and Bezos has it - for $24.45. Curious as to cost in the UK.
Drive belt was removed first, but it was not silicon based eitherš
Not sure of normal retail, but I think around Ā£10 for a smaller bottle. Good stuff though and it actually works rather well on the car tooš
I wash my car about once a year whether it needs it or not.
As often as that ā¦OCD ?
Well, I am including driving fast in the rainā¦and I will end here lest I get in trouble. My 272 is due back tomorrow so I will post a pic after reinstalling.
Hi Jason, autoglym super resin polish does contain silicon, I have checked their web page. silicon is very hard to remove.
Every dayās a school day!
