Check out these beauties. I have been hankering after NBLs for like ever and nothing ever shows then recently like buses two pairs came along at once on ebay. I go these and they are marvelous.
Is that spherical objecy a subwoofer?
And the Naim sub to boot. What a beauty - well done! They look fantastic.
Yeah the sub is just for 5.1 duties, very much not needed for stereo
I once heard NBL’s with an n-Sub in a two channel music system.First with no sub, then with sub on. Hmm, bit of a difference but nowt to shout about. Then the sub was turned off again and oh my goodness! When the sub was put back on again it just lifted everything up. It was like a missing piece had been found.
Since you have the sub, it’s worth a try. (You probably already have).
Yeah I have tried already, the rooms is pretty lively to be fair, you can see the mitigations in place behind the speakers but its a bit much with the sub.
To be fair I have essentially put them in and listened to music for a month not much fiddling beyond making new grills and making sure everything was bouncing correctly. They are in lovely condition considering they are from 98.
Sacrilege, I know, but it’s not hi-fi.
It’s an exercise ball for my physio.
The mitigation might not be an asset behind them. The bass drivers are where they are to make use of wall reinforcement. In both rooms I’ve used mine in the gap behind has optimised at 5.5cm from the rear of the cabinets to a solid wall with the speakers level, which just about allows for the cable to run from a Naim speaker plug to the floor without touching the wall.
The distance between them is also worth playing with. Herbie’s small gliders make experimenting easy, once they’ve bedded in and an initial harshness is gone, though I should get round to replacing them with Fraim chips now the positions are set.
Hi Gary,
Very nice.
How are you supporting the Axess?
Did you have SBLs before?
M
Too cool!
Yeah I hear you , but I have an odd room bass can be all over the place the panels serve two purposes the other to hide a literal tonne of wires! They have made a terrific difference in taming reflections and what have you.
For me at least they are sounding great toed in a bit as well I know this is not accepted wisdom
Hi it’s actually very agricultural there is two right angle heavy duty shelving brackets under there with some spikes. Hard to see from that pick. I hand built the panels which suspend about 20cm from the back wall so part of the axess is in the panels as it were.
The panels have a thick double material underlay in them and suspend on a wood frame with adjustable 3D printed brackets .
I have not had sbls for years I had and still have some lovely neat speakers. I did not plan on nbls but when I saw them it had to be done
I use a wall mounted turntable shelf, which is FARRRR less discrete.
Did you replace SBLs with the NBLs??
M
Yes, a very good turntable and that’s a good photo showing it off well. Can you tell where you got your red mat from, I’d like to add a bit of colour to mine?

It’s a Rega mat. They make a few colours - red, blue, yellow and purple. Not quite all the Tellytubbies. Any Rega dealer should be able to get hold of one for you. The red certainly gives a nice lift to the rather austere dark grey.
Thank you HH. I knew that Rega did other mats but they seemed to specify them for Rega turntables other than the P8, I assumed that was down to the thickness of the mat.
I’ll have a look.

My previous P9 and my present P10 were specified to be used with the thinner mats.
I went with Herbie’s gliders under my Kudos titant88s to replace Naim chips for ease of movement on my hardwood floor.
No loss of sound quality whatsoever.
I kept the Gliders under my speakers. Always nice to be able to try different positions without worry about damage to floor.
