Shame about the speaker cable length problem. SL cable prices mean you’re only going to order the amount you need at the time. My set up needed 7m of the stuff. If things change and I need less I’ll just cut in half.
Joking!

I’m not a big fan of the looks of Quadraspire’s tables but you’ve done a great job of speccing that one and it looks good in all black. As mentioned before, the LP12 in Oak is looking very cool.
Cheers RackKit. As I said before Fraim is simply too big for my space. This is not exactly small but I am very pleased with the outcome. I am also delighted with the NDX2/Core. It sounds very natural and is easy to listen to.
So beautiful!
Just out of curiosity, don’t you have any vibration issue with your TT so close to the left SBL?
Regards,
David
When I bought the LP12 in 2016 I knew it might be an issue. However, it has never been a problem even at quite loud volumes. I suspect it’s not optimum but I have heard clearly each Linn upgrade over the years which I think must be a good sign.
Recently upgraded my Nait XS2/Rega Fono amp to the excellent Supernait 3. A very worthwhile improvement and nice to lose a box and to have a “phono” button on the amp too.
Previously, my system lived on an IKEA TV bench until I was lucky enough to find this used but as new Quadraspire SVT rack with the bronze upgrade top shelf spikes at an extremely advantageous price. Speakers are NSats on NSat stands.
@Basil1966 - Sunoko-Vent looks good. To maximise the benefit of your bronze spike upgrade you might want to think about getting an additional shelf to go between the top of the columns and bottom of the spikes. The cost is modest and additional stability it provides is very worthwhile. And with your LP12 source, you’ll have space to put the album cover while you play the LP .
Hi Stuart
I’m interested in your experience in moving from the CDS3 as I keep wondering about abandoning my CD player for a streamer. How are you finding the SQ of the NDX2 compared to the CD player (are you using the same power supply)? Apart from SQ my other concern is about ripping a large number of CDs. It seems from what I have read that the Core is very efficient but has a weak spot in organising classical music files, although that is unlikely to be a significant issue for me. I would prefer a simpler solution like the Core than going down the NAS route (but I know there are other options like Innuos, which you may have considered). Is your Core plugged into your router or directly into the NDX2 (excuse my ignorance if those aren’t practical alternatives)? Any observations would be very welcome.
I just got a Core second hand and am pleased with it. I’m not much cop on the IT stuff, so preferred this simplified approach than a NAS set up.
The Core isn’t popular here as it has user limitations for some here and also others consider it to be similar sound wise to a NAS set up without the hefty price tag.
Personally, I like its convenience and simplicity and it sounds good to me and it’s kinda cute looking. Apart from the white light that is. It should have been green ! Should be an option to change the colour yourself.
I’ve got 700-800 CDs and it took about an obsessive month to rip . There will be missing covers, CDs that won’t rip ( only a few ) and probably titles to amend afterwards, but once it’s done it’s a good feeling.
If you have a streamer already , connect the Core to the router or switch , to which your streamer connects to and the streamer will access the files.
I’ve just got a nd5xs2 and haven’t played the ripped files back yet ( I connected the Core to the coaxial input of my dac previously), but it’s fairly intuitive all said.
I paid under 50% second hand for mine , one year old, so I’m pretty content.
Hi Roda,
I’m pleased that you enjoying the Core. Can you tell me do you need a PC to set the Core up or can it all be done with an iPad?
Thank you
A PC can come in handy for files that aren’t created on the Core itself and you might need to modify in some way eg add missing covers for downloaded files from say Qobuz. Files not created on the Core itself, would need to be modified on a PC , so you can access the Core downloads folder and make changes. I don’t know an awful lot about I pads I’m afraid.
But otherwise it can all be done pretty much on the Core itself. Certainly for any CDs you rip.
Any queries relating to the Core are best raised on the streaming section. We will be told to get back on system pics topic otherwise! They will also catch the eye of the mighty Mr. Hendon who helped me enormously set up mine.
The other criticism of the Core here, is that the money spent would reap greater benefits on a PSU upgrade or the like.
But I’m one of those who likes what it does. Well someone has to!
I recommend creating a backup (on a removable or external drive) in the event something runs amok, you won’t have to re-rip CDs. If you already have done this, apologies for the redundant suggestion.
Thanks. Yep done two backups on separate HDDs via the Core.
Absolutely essential.
Thank you. I’m trying to get away from using a PC, I have a MacBook Pro, I got in 2007 and it’s slow now.
Yes, I’ll ask questions on the streaming threads.
I purchased my Core new in May 2019 & have been really pleased with it since.
I had 500 CD’s to rip & had 9 that, for whatever, wouldn’t rip. Only one of these looked in poor condition. On each occasion I made a copy CD on my PC & it ripped to the Core first time! I have no idea why this should be but it made be something for you to try if you have a CD that you really want transferred to the Core but are having problems with.
I fitted my Core with a 1TB SSD & it has given no problems at all & it is simplicity itself to keep a backup on a small 5TB Western Digital drive I have. Just takes a few moments to add a new CD or download to this drive. I also back this drive up about twice a year to an old, unused external HHD drive for extra insurance.
As long as the house doesn’t burn down, I should be OK!
Hi Clive,
It was a big thing for me to let my CDS3 go. However, I was only using it for background/entertaining as I mostly play records. That said, I have been pleasantly surprised at the quality of both ripped and streamed music. While it’s early days I think I will remain happy with the move. It effectively added radio as an additional source which is an added bonus.
I did keep my XPS and that now powers the NDX2.
The Core is not well liked on the Forum, especially by those that are IT savvy it seems. I disagree. I like my IT as simple as possible. It rips brilliantly, filed my CDs perfectly, backs up automatically. I don’t want it to do much else. It is away from the main system but I do have a wired link to it so not using WiFi. You can do this much more cheaply of course but I have a certain belief in Naim.
I ripped about 700 of my CDs ignoring those that I no longer like. It takes ages (4ish minutes per CD) so I combined my listing sessions with wine and about 20 rips plus the occasional mega stint of 50 or so. Took about a week.
I think you need to be ‘ready’ for the change. Only you can decide that one. SQ does seem remarkably close to the CDS3, very smooth and yet incisive would be my early thoughts.
Stu.
Having just replied to Clive below and now reading your post I think we are very close in our opinions roda!
I only used my iPad to monitor each rip. I do have a MacBook but it has nothing to do with my hifi!
Thank you, mine is like me , aged and slow. We both use to be very fast . I don’t want to get a new PC if at all possible.
