It was certainly a consideration… but I also think a couple of FraimLite levels on top make the racks look more ‘finished’.
Perfect for a Solstice…
New system installed today.
NDX2/555PSDR/NAC282/NAP250DR/HiCAPDR/NAPSC. All Powerlines and Kudos KS1 speaker cable.
Kudos Titan 606’s are on demonstration. All sounding very good so far!
Nice! That poor preamp must be screaming for help though, surrounded by all those PSUs. (Sorry, but someone was going to say it!)
Congratulations!
I still bet it sounds really good.
I know Chris, but I’m limited by the rack (and what is deemed ‘acceptable’ by the other half!). I’ve got the 555PS on the top, but happy for any other suggestions regarding unit positioning.
I’m always a bit sceptical about the impact things like this have on absolute sound quality and I’m not sure whether my 56 year old ears could tell the difference! Either way, it’s all about the music for me, and I am very happy today.
Something like Hifi rack Uk would accommodate all your components without stacking them. The tv could be fixed on the wall.
The difference in sound would be really great, like a ps upgrade.
Picture from their website
Why can’t HiFi companies stop using pictures of unusable systems like this one? It’s not just the missing cables, there’s no phono stage, too. Nice looking, but superficial and amateurish in my opinion.
Have to say that the ATCs sound and look great in my room. They sound so good infact that even from YouTube, to a denon receiver and via preout to the 272, they still make the kids dance to the tripe they choose to watch on there. They won’t know what’s hit em when they start staying over at friends houses when they get older.
I estimate the 100 hour burn in took around a week in this house haha.
It’s about how it looks, to have an idea in one’s room….
I know, but as cables are more or less visible behind different racks that’s something I’d like to see.
Anyway, let’s go back to pictures.
Lol…FR, he has HiFiRacks!
You really need a hifi rack to separate the Naim boxes. A full fraim, fraim lite or alternative rack. You just won’t get the most out of it the way you have it. The components need separation and you will get distortion from the transformers being so close together. They will also heat up.
Love the “acoustic treatments”, it looks much like my system does in the shared family space.
Changing the rack is not an option and, aesthetically, I would not have a FRAIM in the house.
Current set up is, on the top I have NDX2 and 555PS.
Below (left) is, in order:-
HICAP. NAPSC
NAC282
NAP250DR
Would it help if I put the 282 on the top next to the NDX2, with all the power supplies (and the 250) on the left?
Any views out there?
You really need space between the components as a minimum. You don’t need a Fraim as such but sticking the boxes directly on top of each other you will not get the best from them. You have sensitive signal paths in the preamp and sources and heavy duty transformers in the power amps and power supplies. This is why you need to separate the different components rather than stacking them on top of each other. This is why Naim suggest Fraim. And ideally a separate Brain and Brawn stack for larger systems to get the best performance from your system.
You won’t get the best from it right now although I am sure it still sounds very good.
Yes, putting some space around the preamp should help. Perhaps still not optimal, but we all have different views on what is or is not domestically acceptable. Unfortunately climbing the Naim ladder means adding more boxes, which is not always the case with other brands, but if you’re happy with the sound you are getting, don’t tear yourself apart. Life’s too short.
Exactly, perhaps you could add some isolation pads between the components on the base level in the meantime. It’s not easy if you want to keep everything compact. I have gone for full fraim and it dominates the room which I like, but it’s not for everyone.
