Sorry, didn’t answer your question properly. I’m not good with the terminology of all things hi fi but to my ears the bass is exceptional even with the cheap bass drivers I purchased at Jaycar. The midrange seems to dominate at higher volume. The tweeters are older Philips models and seem to be as good or better than some more expensive ones, all in all these speakers sound mighty fine to me at a moderate volume level.
Still haven’t got that hole fixed.
Sorry Pete haven’t fixed that hole in back wall yet
You beat me
No I insist it’s draw. Stuff looks good, is that the Balmain system?
Nope Southern Highlands - a pedestrian system evidently
Apparently.
No wonder Harry likes you.
I’m sure there is at least one bottle neck in that Balmain system.
Ha ha no doubt but my ageing cloth ears can’t hear them
Oh, the irony is breathtaking.
Is that a 250 bottleneck and a pedestrian (slow and boring) 252? You should be ashamed of yourself
Without wishing to fall out with anyone can we just address the ‘250 bottleneck’ issue please. It’s becoming very tiresome. It seems to be mentioned every time a 250DR is seen in a system these days.
Some time ago I described an upgrade that I made to my system from 282/HicapDR/250DR to 252/SuperCapDR/300DR.
A very positive upgrade each step of the way, despite a ‘wobble’ with the 252 which had just been serviced and needed to be run in.
Having changed to the 300 first which is in the ‘wrong’ order I observed that apart from adding power and refinement much more detail was coming through, almost like a pre-amp upgrade. This suggested to me that the 250 was in someway holding back information that my (then) 282/Hicap DR was able to pass through.
This was unexpected and I shared this with the forum as I would have expected the ‘bottleneck’ to be elsewhere, i.e. with the pre or Hicap DR. This insight has been shared as there are people in the position of having a 282/HicapDR/250DR and are contemplating an upgrade. I think in some cases a 300DR may be a more suitable upgrade than the pre-amp even though this goes against convention.
As I’ve said on many occasions the 250 is a super amp, I’ve owned a 250 (CB and 250DR) for longer than any other power amp and they have provided countless hours of enjoyment.
FWIW after the install of the 552 my dealer said ‘that’s you (finished)’ and that, with the Proac Tab 10 Sig, there was no need for a 300. The 250DR is a supremely capable amplifier.
Also, IME I’ve always found a change of power amplifier impacts the quality of replay the least compared to source, pre or ‘speakers.
Hail the 250DR!

Your dealer is clearly a very poor salesman!
