AM
Nice set up! May I ask you why you skipped the second 555PS for the ND555?
I got my second 555PS a few months ago and Iām happy with the additional SQ it brings.
Looks superb Ian, I not surprised you are very pleased with it I suspect it sounds fabulous. Enjoy.
Thatās stunning Ian
Great photo and great system ā¦
Must be great happiness ā¦
Purely financial; I needed the trade-in value of the PS to make the deal on the ND555 feasible. However, the ND555 with one PS outperformed the NDS with two by some margin so I didnāt feel it was a negative step. I couldnāt help but listen to the ND555 with both supplies and whilst the improvements the second supply brought were readily apparent, I felt it still performed exceptionally well with just the one - which was just as well!
Cheers,
Ian
Good to hear that the ND555 with one 555PS outperform the NDS.
I replaced my NDS with the ND555 a few years ago and the difference in SQ was immediately noticeable. I never tried to run the NDS with a second 555PS. So there is a future upgrade option for your ND555, but I agree with you that even with one PS the ND555 brings a lot of fun.
Cheers
Christian
I could live with that ā¦
But the NDS is a fantastic buy second hand. I had one and upgraded to the 555
It is.
It is always great to see everyoneās systems - from the purpose built rooms to the shared living spaces.
Mine does a double job - both playing CDs but also so playing what I am recording - and it is in a room that is limited in positions due to windows, doors, radiators and walls shared with neighbours.
and with night time lighting for listeningā¦
Though since getting the CD player and amp I have not done any recording since Aprilā¦
The Linn DSM/3 home demo went back earlier today, however not before a session using the inbuilt pre-amp direct into the NAP500.
Was it goodā¦it was pretty good, plenty bass, sweet detailed treble, mid was good - however had lost some of that Naim mid-range presence and strengthā¦
Could I live with itā¦maybeā¦would prob need to play with some more speaker cable optionsā¦)
The 552 very definitely āaddsā to the sound, as you may anticipate for Ā£21+Kā¦
is it worth itā¦I did immediately āmiss itāā¦IMHO, the 552/500 takes some beatingā¦
As a streamer the DSM/3 is one of the finest I have heard, again as one may anticipate for Ā£30Kā¦
Still deliberating/awaiting ānumbersā from the Dealer on the way forward - I do need a new streamer!..
meanwhile, removed a couple of shelves of Isoblueā¦552 to move up yet (dependant on what happens nextā¦)
(ā¦spot the āNipperāā¦)
Yes get that 552 moved up. Can I also suggest trying the Unitiserve away from the rack too. Your 552 and Superline will probably benefitā¦
Lovely speakers (although I may be biased)
Thanks James
The UServe is powered down most of the time since Qobuzā¦and itsā PSU is at the side of the rackā¦
552, I may move this weekend to try outā¦
The 606ās are very, very, goodā¦
Thanks for the feedback. Thatās more or less what I was expecting. Hopefully the NAC552 doesnāt add to the sound, rather it takes away less than the Linn, but I know what you mean. One thing I was wondering/hoping was that maybe Linn would split the unit and release just the Organik streamer. I think that would open up more markets for Linn, especially if they were to put it in a ānormalā Klimax case. It would certainly be a challenger for the ND555.
One thing I found when I listened to the 606 was just how integrated it sounded. It just seemed so ātogetherā or āseamlessā across the audio spectrum. I suspect Iād be more inclined towards them than the 707.
I listened to the 505, 606, and 707 before choosing the 606āsā¦
IMHO, they are the āGoldilocksā speakers of the rangeā¦just wonderful to listen too, the sound is so integrated, and seamless as you sayā¦
(not including the 808 which I havenāt heard, yetā¦)
Ah well, the 808 isā¦ rather good! But then at Ā£25k it should be.
Agreed, hope to hear them next week out of interestā¦
That would be very goodā¦
the route I may end up taking is a Klimax DSM/2, routed through the 552/500, and in due course upgraded to the Organik DACā¦kinda what you propose, not quite, however the closest I may get to itā¦
