My system is certainly better than what I had at the end of the 70s. Bear in mind I used to own a pair of Tannoy Cheviots driven by a 42/snaps/110.
I’ve pulled the D2Rs away from the wall and the soundstage is really improved at the expense of bass. At this point I must say the bass isn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination. I just want to see if my dealers opinion about subs is true. My dealer lives only half a mile from me and I’ll have a REL T9i on loan for a couple of weeks. I have an open mind and it’s nice to be able to experiment during lockdown.
I did that about three weeks ago and sure enough the soundstage improved. I was expecting improvements to the bass, but the music now extends out beyond the speakers and it has better front to to back depth. The the stands took 7kg of Atabites, best £30 I could spend methinks.
Something old, something new. Not a permanent change on the amplification front but always nice to get the Nait out for a play. For something with ~ 13w on tap, it plays music with far more authority than it really should and works very nicely with the Shaninians.
Finally I have become a proud Naim owner. It started with Atom and I have 3 pair of speakers; Vienna Mozart SE, QLN Signature and Dynaudio Audience 52SE
Sees that I got a grilling from some for stacking the amp and CD player… I got the jigsaw out this morning a cut a big slot behind the units for wires …
so now they are side by side on the shelf to be honest I can’t hear any difference but the wife says it looks neater so I’ve got that bit off praise for doing it
Now any one who says it needs glass shelves or expensive ball bearings and cups will get told to put them where the sun don’t shine
