Cool. Really great videos!
Great speakers Mark - What size Bass units. They look about 12” ?
12”
No lack of bass in your room then
Thank you very much, @Hifirydis. Indeed I am very happy with that combination so far.
Your system is looking very impressive, too. It is fitting the room nicely and I bet it is sounding wonderful.

No changes are planned as long as the 3.5 lives.
Great pictures, we see the specialist here.
Very nice decoration,
Love the look of the Luxman!
Cd3.5 is a great player. Kept mine for when the cds2 gives up.
I think many people with Unitis want a single box system. To upgrade the speakers are an obvious choice unless you upgrade within the Uniti range. Also, the fact that a speaker is more expensive doesn’t mean it’s harder to drive, so a 40w Atom might drive expensive speakers fine while a 70w Star would struggle with much cheaper ones. And finally, and this might be controversial on this forum, I and many other believe speakers do give you most bang for your buck.
Whatever that means.
Lovely looking system! enjoy
thanks
Finally got have a short play with the Hegel H190 only 5 or 6 tracks, hopefully my new deck will be here by Tuesday as my other half is back at work that night when I can really open the system up.
For the few tracks I did play it’s by far the best my speakers have sounded when played loud it is by quite a margin the best amp I’ve owned. It’s been a while almost two years since I’ve had any Naim equipment apart from my trusty Nac A5 so playes at normal levels it’s difficult to compare the Hegel with Naim I used to but it even with the P6 as a source it brought out details and emotion in tracks I’ve not heard since I played them on my LP12/82/SC/250 which was my favourite Naim system.
So for now I’d say that in my room and with my speakers it plays music better than any Naim amp I’ve owned when played very loud but played at normal levels things are a bit closer but that could change when my new P8 arrives.
Great room and and set-up.
Re the speaker aspect though (and as has been recorded on many other threads), while the likes of the Unitis can drive speakers well with music like this, there are benefits to having more powerful amps, especially to exert better control over the bass. And it’s only once you’ve listened to these do things tend to make sense. In many speakers, the tweeter and mid-range are easy to drive, hence why relatively low-level listening is great, but involving the bass unit can place much more demand on an amp. And the weird thing is that some music which you think is bass-light/absent isn’t and vice-versa.
It very much depends on the nature of music you listen to and how much you push the system. IME, Naim amps favour 8ohm speakers more than 4ohmers.
Many thanks…
Cheers for the reply,
I know how they sound with more powerful amps. They can even throw a hell of a party. It grips the bass driver with an iron fist. I have a powerful hypex class D power amp that I can strap to the Atom to drive these speakers very loud with very low distortion and with lots of bass control.
It’s not that I am unaware of the benefits of more power, it is just that the little Atom sounds so much more musical and nicer to listen to at the volumes I play. I choose the atom every time for normal daily listening, but yes It definitely depends on the speaker and it’s ease to drive. These are 88-89 db, 8 ohm.
As I said before, I just prefer a more full range sound. Also, I planned on future upgrades, that’s why I went big. These will see me through a few upgrades and will nicely reap every increase in power.
Not many changes here recently. A new Sonos port replacing a connect and rotation of cartridges. Possibly more to come in 2021.
Beautiful room!
Can you describe your deck please?
