I do a very similar thing but use a tea towel to slide the speakers around, once I find a good spot I rock the speaker to take the tea towel out from each side leaving the iso’s in direct contact with the floor.
Since getting my new speakers I’ve felt that the silver Fraim uprights were perhaps looking a bit too bright and shiny, so I’ve treated myself to some new black sets. They arrived from Naim earlier this afternoon and I’ve rebuilt the Fraim. It’s amazing how it looks so completely different. I’m not entirely convinced it was a good idea - it’s more discreet, and matches with the speakers a lot better, but it’s just so black! Still, I can always swap back if I don’t get used to it.
Can you say how much cost new 8 legs? Would be interested.
Looks classy IMO. Arnt new legs almost as expensive as new Fraim though?
A set of uprights - just the metal bits, not the studs, spikes etc - costs £97.80.
Hi @anon4489532 I hope you don’t mind me asking, how would you compare the ATC 11’s that you demoed to the Proac’s that you now own ?
Those little speakers really have peaked my interest.
So 4X 97 in your case, and mine too. Near 500 euros. Not cheap.
Piqued dear boy, piqued! I only gave the ATCs an evening’s listen. They sounded perhaps a bit fuller than the ProAcs, but what put us off was that they are a lot bigger and the cherry finish was just so horribly brown. We thought they were ugly whereas the ProAcs are pretty little things and take up a lot less space. They are only 160mm deep and with 100mm behind them they don’t intrude into the room at all. I wouldn’t want to use the ATCs that close to the wall. They are both good sounding speakers, but quite different.
It just looks so perfect!
Hmm, I was worried the black might look a bit bold, methinks black and cherry is a good match but silver for the lighter woods.
Something something, dark side!
A stereo needs to look nice in my view and I do think this change makes the stack look less imposing, which was the objective. It’s hard to put a price on aesthetics, and changing the uprights was quite expensive. It’s very personal and up to each of us to decide if we think the result justifies the cost.
Thank you very much for the quick reply. And I apologise for my bad grammar I didn’t do to well at school. But hard work has given me a comfortable life and a chance to own some of this wonderful Naim equipment.
I also agree, those little Proac’s look wonderful.
That change looks really good to me, Nigel.
Sorry, I wasn’t meaning to criticise. I wouldn’t have called the ATCs ugly if I knew you had them! I’m sure that in a different room they could look perfect, but they just looked completely wrong here - far too dominating. The other big impression they made is that they are incredibly heavy. They weigh an absolute tonne, especially with the two in one box.
Looks like a nice balance to me, particularly given the open frame speaker stands. Def got a P8 in mind for some point in 2021.
I think that leg colour choice should be made based on room decor. Some rooms demand black legs, some the silver legs. For my room it was the silver legs without question. Your room is more difficult in my opinion. Could go either way. I feel the black legs in the picture you present to us, make the whole look too dark and squat. (could be camera angle though). Previous pictures of your system had a lighter and more proud look. Maybe the SL2’s swung it that direction. On balance I think the silver legs suit your room better. JMHO.
For the record, I prefer the black legs and if I can ever be bothered to redecorate, I’ll make sure the room will be better suited to them.
At least you now have the benefit of being able to choose at will.
Try alternating rows
It looks great to me. I’m glad you kept the turntable!
I think either work well in your room, I never cared for silver uprights but ended up with them! I think black work best on lower racks, as they get taller they can become imposing.
You will get use to it HH
I had black fraims/fraimlites with black uprights - now that was too black
Just changed the fraims/fraimlites to ash keeping the black uprights - to me it’s just perfect
Cheers
